is my dragon too fat???

Hey guys, just a quick question, my 11 month old girl sheila just seems really fat lol, i just wana know, can beardy's get 'too fat' ?? and can there be health problems.... ill try and get some pics up ina bit....

Yes there can be dangers from being too fat, fatty liver disease for one, I've got a female dragon on a diet right now because she got a lil too much on the robust side....lol.

oh rite maybe i need to get her on the tredmill then hahaha she isnt eating alot atm but she just seems really fat lol she got a proper beer belly

Yeah, I've learned I cannot leave her with any live food in her tank, she eats everything :shock: She used to get superworms and of course all the greens she can eat, no fat in greens :wink: I think though she has a slow metabolism too because even when she was getting less than everyone else she still gained so she's on a diet now....lol. No more supers for awhile, loads of greens and maybe a cricket here and there..lol.

haha awww bless her, yeah my girls not eating alot atm but she doesnt seem to be losing weight :? although about 3 weeks ago she had a week where just seemed to eat ALOT! she had like 43 crickets in 1 day and then about 15 next day then 30 + the next day i think thats when she piled it on hahahaha

maybe she has eggs? have you felt her belly? With most of my girls you can feel the eggs quite well just before the lay. And they will eat loads when they are preggers but not eat much just before they lay, has she laid eggs before? looking again at the second pic I'm thinking again.. her belly looks a lil marbly.....even if she has not mated she could lay eggs. hmmm :?

:shock: can they actualy lay eggs without mating!? thats a new 1 never heard that b4, cause i got 2 girls (well im 90% sure there both girls) in 1 viv so ive never worried bout eggs b4!!!

Yep, she can lay eggs without mating. They'll be infertile, obviously. She looks rather gravid (carrying eggs).

the thing is she has looked like that ( like she has a beer belly) for ages now literly like 7 months, idk why she has been that shape lol, so i think if she looked like that due to eggs she wud have had them by now wudnt she??

Well you should know for sure if she is trying to lay if she is going around her cage scratching and trying to dig...thats a sure sign she needs to lay. You should have a lay box just in case, I use half vermiculite and half plain potting soil( stuff with no fertilizers or anything added) the size should be aprox 30-40 gallons 6-10 inches deep The subtrate should moistened with warm distilled water so it clumps but doesn't drip to about 80degree's and kept warm with an clamp on light. Hope that helps!

Also, is she does by chance have eggs, she will probably lay several clutches, the norm is around 2-3.

She never digs, but my other beardy sydney she is digging alot atm but she doesnt seem any bigger and she is only bout 7 months old, can she lay eggs??

also do i need to do all that if there un-fertilized eggs?? cause they wont be good for anything??

Usually the females will not lay eggs until they are 2-3 but can lay eggs as soon as 7-8 month especially when in the presence of another dragon, male or not. You want to give your girl the facilities to lay properly so she does not stress and retain her eggs as well.
