Incubator Questions

I may build my own Incubator, but have a few questions.

Where do I measure the heat and humidity from? The top, middle or bottom?

What kind of wood would be best?

Does it have to have a window?

I built my own incubator and it was successful in hatching the entire clutch.

I made a step by step for how to build it too, but I am sure its auto-locked by now.

Why are you using wood to build it?

You want to get the temp from where the eggs would be at.
You don't need a window.

What would be the materials? I thought If I made it myself, wood was my only option.

I am thinking about making shelves to hold more eggs. That is why I don't know where to measure the temps.

Actually that must be the second thread I made of it.

I made the first one a long time ago, and it got locked. It had my own pictures from it so you could see it all put together.
Then I made the one you are looking at, later when someone asked how to do it.

You can make a DIY incubator from a 10-20gal aquarium. I have one that I am going to use from a tutorial i found on youtube.

Just look up DIY Incubator on there and search the vids.

I needed a larger incubator and ended up making mine out of an old winecooler....well a new wine cooler was $400 at homedepot but caught a deal on craigslist for $50. I gutted it and used the internal temp display plus my own temp/humidity displays. installed open shelves in place of glass, Reversed the upper fan and installed a low volt fan on the bottom to distribute heat Its large, stainless steel and has a tinted glass front, holds temps nice.


Heres a pic when i first brought it home that i had laying around after i gutted and tested out with an old thermostat i had laying around. Later upgrade to a proportional and added fans/shelves for accurate temp holding.
