are you going to a reptile expo to get your bd?
If you are then by all means, stock up THERE..don't go back to your local pet store or commercial chain store. It's going to be much cheaper, ie- I was in search of some sort of temp probe when I first got my bd about 3 years ago...petsmart had it listed for about 25 bucks, give or take, I went there and paid about 9-10ish. It's worth it if you have a car and have room to put some stuff!
If not, check online for all the things you need, don't be afraid to order from different places if you aren't in some sort of rush to pick up your bd.
In total, I spent about 550-600 bucks USD on everything.
DISCLAIMER- THIS IS AN ESTIMATE COST BASED ON COMMERCIAL PET STORE PRICES, PLEASE DO MORE RESEARCH ONLINE USING VARIOUS DIFFERENT SITES TO FIND THE BEST PRICE FOR YOU!
So here's yours!
BD-120$
50+g tank- (DIY)80-135$ish (Store bought glass)300$-475$ based off of commerical pet stores (try CL)
Some sort of substrate(not even going to get in to this discussions lol!)-for slate/tile probably about 10-15 bucks and you never ever have to get anymore...ever. For shelf liner probably 6 bucks for a roll that will last for a very long time.
Lights - in total around 70 bucks if you have the light enclosures already..maybe a little more or less.
Hides/fun things- You can easily drop 100$ on store bought stuff, but do what a lot of people do..go out to a public area and get some larger rocks and disinfect them (search around for the methods people use) and save yourself probably about 35 bucks on some hides and stuff. Get creative! but the hammock is always a fun idea, mine doesn't use it to much but it hasn't been in there a month yet so we will see! most people say their BD loves it though!
Equipment- Probably about 30-50 to start with for the temp guns, guages and all. That's if you get a timer or not as well! If you do not get a timer for the lights then I would expect it to maybe be around 30 bucks fo the guages/meters.
Total estimated cost for you!-I've got around 550 bucks, give or take in total listed there...please read the disclaimer if you think this price is high.
This price is also not taking into consideration any DIY work that you might do in order to save a few bucks. The tank is the largest money saver. In total if you get all the parts you can easily save almost 250-300 bucks just by making your own enclosure..if you have the time/knowledge to do so.
