How do I prepare bricks

Building a ramp to the basking spot with small bricks from lowes. What do I need to do to prepare them? I read to maybe bake them? I will also look for smooth edges if possible.

I would rinse them off really well with hot water and then hit them with a bit of disinfectant (F10SC or similar) or a steam cleaner and then let them dry out. That should be fine. You just need to worry about keeping the surface clean. I avoid baking bricks or stone because moisture in them could cause cracking or explosion. I do bake wood items to sanitize them though.
