you should begin handling as soon as possible. Babies are always skiddish. We also just got our 1st dragon baby and we just petted it at first then tried finger feeding it to try to get it more comfortable with us..
I am a newbie owner so hopefully someone with more exp will help you more, But best of luck you will fall in love just like I did. Now I sneak in there all hours of the night to check on the baby to make sure he is okay and still wrapped in his blankie all snug as a bug...

Good morning everyone!!! I have a couple of suggestions. To get your dragons used to your scent, place a t-shirt that you have worn in the viv with them, that will familiarize them with your scent. Start by placing your hand in their house and letting them come to you or slowly petting them, try hand feeding greens, your smell=food and love then scoop them up gently from the front (so they can see you) hand under the belly to make them feel secure. Also using a blankie (small one) and get them out at bedtime wrap them in a beardie burrito and let the dragon lay on your chest.Bedtime is a good time to do this because they are snuggled and ready for bed.

I was told to wait for a few weeks ... until they get used to their surroundings, etc. But I started handling mine asap. I've had MJ for only 2 months and we love cuddling together =D ! She sleeps with me everynight in the bed hehehe. I did have to do the t shirt trick... and it worked like wonders !

pinch his tail between your fingers? what does that do? I thought it was bad to do anything with the tail for fear it may fall or break off. I still need to find out what my baby is. :banghead:

Yes you gently pinch the tail between your fingers while your holding it!! Do not pull on it or pick him or her up with the tail!! That way it does not jump out of your hands and hurt it self!! I even do that with all my new borns for the past 6 years and never once had a problem!! Good luck!!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
