Got a new rescue

Jennifer: I am so glad u found Duckie. He is just the cutest. Once he realizes that you are providing for him, he will come around. You guys will have an amazing bond soon enough. Right now he is learning not every human will starve him. As for trying to bite, don't u know, I get nasty when I'm hungry too!!! Poor guy. I would feed him as much as he will take also. My guys (and girl) will always back off when they r full n poor Duckie probably didn't have that luxury.

Good luck with Duckie n give him kisses from us. He is so lucky to have u guys!

Laura, I honestly am kind of scared to try to hand feed him for 2 reasons. First is, as violently as he eats, I am scared to try that, and 2, I dont think I want him to associate my hand with food, since he is already trying to eat it. I do feed him in a little clear plastic dish that I hold for him to eat out of. I have a video of him eating, I will post it if I can get it to work. (I have had trouble with it, some people can view it, and some get an invalid format error).
I have not tried the tub thing, but I have sat in the recliner with him sitting on me, and me kind of looking at my laptop, so that he wouldnt think I was staring straight at him.

I am hoping that I can get him to trust me, I am working on it. It is just strange for me to have one that I have to watch myself with. All 3 of my other guys are so calm (as long as they dont see each other) and I can do anything to them that I want. I have to watch myself with him. Sometimes he gets kind of a crazed/dazed look in his eye, it is weird!
And I will give him some kisses from you, as long as I dont think he will eat my nose! :wink: :lol:

When he tries to bite you shove a treat in his mouth. I read that somewhere....They said its an easy way to make your dragon more friendly.

Gina, I think he is calming down some, or at least trusting me a little. Earlier today he had a "beardie nose plug" hanging out, and he let me brush my finger across it to get it to come out. It was just flopping there and not coming out, so I just brushed across it and it came right out.
And then, a little later on, he was sitting on my lap, and then he kind of walked across, walked across my arm, and licked it as he went past. He actually licked me, and didnt try to bite me.

I dont know how to do a signature though. Butch made this one for me as a surprise, and it was a while ago, as Foster was still a baby, and he turned 3 yesterday. I have been after him to make me one for over a year, since I got Brady, but no such luck.

Momto3boys, Dudley is a schnoodle. (schnauzer and poodle mix) We get him cut in a schnauzer cut because I think schnauzer are so classy looking. When his hair grows out it's curly like a poodle; he begins to look like a teddy bear who desperately needs a haircut then.

Awww Jen, he's getting used to you already. I have a feeling he was poked alot where he was before. When we got Dino, he did the same thing, took a few days to calm him down & make him realize he was with people he could trust. The girl who owned him had a younger brother & we think he poked Dino alot. We gave Dino a snuggly that he just loved, a puppet Orca whale. He sat on it all the time. I think it also helped relax him.

Good luck with Duckie, he is a beautiful beardie and will soon have the personality to match. I know what you mean about being about to do anything with your boys, we're the same way. Lonzo was the oldest of our adopted ones, it took him over a year to want to snuggle, as he'd never had that before. Now he snuggles whenever he can!

Give Duckie a hug from us all, I'm glad he licked you, he's starting to get used to you...good stuff!

Well I found the thread, Jennifer and I have to say that I am not one bit surprised that you took in that poor boy. He definitely needed a new home with someone to love him.
I agree.. Duckie is fitting for him! :wink:
Sorry to hear that he is getting nasty and biting you. That says something about his previous owner :roll:
I'm sure you will have him eating out of the palm of your hand in no time.. literally!
As far as how much to feed him.. I think for now.. allowing him to eat as much as he wants( without overdoing it)and slowly tapering it off to an adult diet will be fine. That's great that he is eating his veggies as well. Poor little guy may have been deprived of eating until he was full, so he is now making up for it. He probably sees every meal as his last

Bless you for giving Duckie a decent life. Whether you decide to keep him or find him a home, at least he is off to a better start!
