Glass enclosure

Hi. I'm new to keeping reptiles and will hopefully be keeping a bearded dragon, however I'm a bit confused about enclosures. Is a glass vivarium ok? If so, then I'll be getting a 18'x18'x18' glass tank for a baby dragon. Is this ok? Thanks

This is a small tank, but works for about 2-3 weeks untill he is bigger. This is because when he is bigger, he can't get away from the heat comeing from the bulb and will die from overheating. If you decide to stick with this tank, one it should only be used for a couple of weeks. Two, you should have 60-75 watt bulb as a heat source. And three, you will have to get anything equal or bigger than a 55 gallon (48 in x 13 in). I hope this has helped you.

You will definitely need to get a bigger tank as he grows but depending on how young/small he is, it may be ok for now. Just read around the site also for info on set up. The glass tank with a screen top is good for beardies since they don't have a high humidity requirement. Also, since it will be a little guy, make sure you do not get a loose particle substrate. As the previous poster said, you may have trouble with keeping a correct temperature gradient with a smaller tank. Just make sure you have a uvb (repti sun 10.0 or MVB if your tank is over 40 gallons). The reptisun 10.0 tube doesn't put off heat, needs to be 6-8 inches from the dragons basking spot and will need an additional heat source. The MVB is a little different but your tank is too small anyway. Sorry if you know all this stuff already. A lot of the time, most new owners aren't told about the proper requirements of a beardie and end of spending way too much money on unnecessary things. I know I did :roll: Just ask a million questions like I do. Everyone is really helpful and knowledgeable here. Good luck and make sure to post pics of your little one when you get him/her.
