Does your beardie turn black when you leave?

Zeus are male rescue we have had for two weeks. He turns black as coal when we put in in his cage, but as soon as you get him out and hold him, he turns almost white! Think it is something about his cage and not being taken care of before that brings back bad memories for him. Made him a fake rock structure, and placed in his tank tonight, he does not seem very please about that either. Needed to get him higher up closer to the UVB.
