Does anybody feed pinkies???

Hercules loves them,but because of fatty content,i feed them infrequently,but i know BD experts that love feeding them infrequently....

... How many "Pinky" threads have you started now? Youve been told that it isnt reccomended, because it can cause impaction and fatty liver disease. There are some breeders that will feed pinkies to gravid females, but males have no reason at all to be eating pinkies. If you want your beardie to have a treat, get silk worms or hornworms instead. Those are much safer and healthier.

Perhaps feeding pinkies is suggested in the book you're reading but I don't think they would mention it if their beardies died from impactions.

As already stated Pinkines are not a good source of live food for beardies in most situations.The most commen ailments are fatty liver disease and imoaction.It is not uncommon however for some breederd to feed pinkys to gravid females post egg laying for a quick boost.Personally I do not like this method at all,if the female is healthy there is no reason not to allow them to slowly regain their fat stores in a more natural fashion.It is much healthy to bulk them up by feeding high protien feeders in variety and a juvie quantity,not to meantion safer.

My experts-reptile dealers with 30 years of daily experience and good books-all say infrequently they can be fed to Adult beardies.I agree,and i also agree with some comments here. I myself,feed them every couple of months for a special treat.

Yep, still gotta say that I will never, never, never, never, never feed a pinky (or fuzzy) to my beardie. I love them waaay too much to do that!

I agree besides it seems these days everyone is an expert so I never hold stock in what they say.Personally I would rather hear from the folks that spend time with their personal animals because they want to not because they may turn a profit from them. The variable may not seem too different but in reality they are worlds apart.People who are hobbyist eternally search for the best for their animals while pet stores and the like eternally search for what is the cheapest way to keep them alive.Pinkies go right with that theory,it is a cheap quick fix and not much else.That is one of the reason breeder females have such a short life span in a pet store environment.The goal is to keep them alove long enough to make a quick buck and not much else.Anyone ever see a retired pet store breeder? Nope? That is because there aren't any. :wink:
