Hello,

Is there a problem if the beardie gets too close to the UBV (ZooMed Reptisun 10.0)? By close I mean less than 6 inches from it.

Thanks!

getting too close to uvb light could cause eye irritation problems, less than 6 inches is to close, 8-12 is usually recomended. it also depends on what light your using and size of terraium. check with manufacture for distance recomendations.

Thanks. Well manufacturer suggests 20 inches from light, where people from here say to let it be between 6 - 8 inches. I'm curious because if I put some furniture the beardie will be able to be less than 6" from it.

i use reptisun 10.0 also and 20" is the maximum it can reach. you can try to add the furniture but keep as low as possible and maybe raise the light a few inches if possible, look out for your beardie clsoing his eyes for long time during the day, if it does and you take out of cage and they open there eyes means that their eyes are irritated from the light and should be changed emidiatly. what size terrarium you use?

I have heard 8-12 as well from the breeder we got our Jericho from . Any further than that and UVB is drastically cut down causing possible MBD . There is actually a calculation somewhere i saw that explains the distance and how every inch produces a fair amount less UVB and too much UVB can do the exact same thing so finding a happy medium is the way to go . Im going with about 9 inches right now

Take a picture of the tank and tell us the dimensions. Not sure why you can't get it far enough away. Even as a baby or juvenile you should have a 20 gallon which are normally minimum 12 inches high. With a basking spot maybe raising him to 8 or 9 inches. Nothing else should be in a juvi or baby tank.

Thanks for the answers. I have a 20 gallon tank, the thing is that the light fixture and the command hooks make the light to be around 6-8 inches from the "ground". With that, if I put any furniture close to the side of the tank where the uvb light is, it will be too close. I'll put a pic later on.
