Mmm, cheez-its are delicious!! This may seem strange but when I eat cheezits, I always put the salted side down on my tongue haha the same goes for any salted snack. Im slowly straying away from snack foods though.. I'd rather sit in front of the computer with a huge bowl of spaghetti :D also, peach snapple is awesome

Dino's thread is going to turn into a junk food anonymous meeting....chocolate, cheese its, fudge, and carbolishious pasta...oh my! Hello my name is Julie and today I fell off the bandwagon and had two s'mores. :help: :help:

Oh Sue what an exhausting experience! Sniff Sniff  for both You and Dino! Things will get better just keep an eye on the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm glad your kids help you out...keeping fingers crossed that they are there to help you with meds tonight! How is she doing today? Is she handling the meds so far?

I know right, Julie?! We can call it JFA and have our meetings here! "Hi My name is Sue and I'm a Cheez-it aholic. It's been 17 hours since my last cup full..." :laughhard: She seems to be doing okay today. She ate her breakfast okay so that's good. I'm only giving her a 1/2 dose for 2 days, tomorrow she gets a full one. The vet called, her blood work came back. Her phosphorus is high. Back to soaks. She and the other vet had both said to cut back on the soaks, the fungus can spread topically from being in the water. Well, nix that idea. She needs fluids to bring that phosphorus level down. *sigh* She wanted me to soak her 2x a day. I work M-F full time so, extra long ones in the evenings, twice on weekends. Told the Dr that her eye looks pretty bad, her bottom lid is being pulled down from the giant growth. Betadine, diluted, can safely be used in the eye area, so I'll be doing that and continue treating all the other areas with the SSD cream. That includes the ripped off sutures areas. Dino goes back to the vet in 6 weeks to get the phosphorus levels checked. On a good note, the bloodwork is showing that all other areas are normal and look great, including her kidneys! :blob5: The high phosphorus could affect them so, we need to get that down. Good thing I asked to have that bloodwork done to get a baseline to start off with! :D Made me feel "smahhht", as we say in Boston!

Thanks for the report, Sue. Did the vet mention why the phosphorous would be so high? I wonder if you looked through the beautiful dragons nutrition page you would find any high phos. foods that Dino has been eating.
Glad to hear there was nothing else indicated on the tests that would be alarming. You were very "smahhht" to have asked for the tests as a baseline. Dino is so lucky to have you!!!

Hi Esther! I was kind of getting that she was insinuating it was from not enough hydration but not positive about that. I'm gonna call the office again tomorrow and ask about "flavored" meds. OMG, what a battle this little girl is giving me! Holy smokes! She DOES NOT want to open her mouth for me and I DO NOT want to be fighting her with HER MOUTH. I soaked her real long and good tonight, so as a result, the lesions/scabs got all gooey. During tonights scuffle, some of them got torn off. :banghead: All raw. She looks like a burn victim again. Glopped on the SSD cream. If I could afford it, I would send her to the vet for the WHOLE WEEK that she needs to be on this med. O.M.G. No tears tonight though...so that's good. 8)
My son was my assistant. He patiently waited while me and Dino had our throw down and I finally got her mouth open without goop or scab or blood on me... then that little scrapper wouldn't SWALLOW IT! She just let it sit in her mouth. Really Dino, REAAALLLY?! I had to open it AGAIN to get the med to go down. Tomorrow should be exciting: injection and oral med. *announcer voice* Stay tuned for day 3 of: The Medicine Challenge.
Spitty, is that what you're trying to hatch??
I just got a slightly burnt Cheez-it outta the box...that was soooo good! Shhhh.

She just doesn't know that you're trying to help her. To you, you're the mean giant who forces icky pastes down her throat, soaks her, and makes her generally look like a burn victim.
*announcer voice* Congratulations! You're an official beardie witch doctor. :p

LOL! It's great that you can keep your sense of humor, Sue. I think sometimes that's the only way we make it through. :D

Yeah, gotta keep the sense of humor. I find myself typing these posts with heavy sarcasm in my head! :laughing6: That's what "kids" do to you. Dino is one of my kids, giving me attitude, I fire back with sarcasm. Ahhh, the joys of being a slave to my children! <-----heavy sarcasm!

So last nights battle was less intense THANKFULLY! I think I learned a new trick. Don't know it it's good or bad though. We got the meds in Dino's mouth, again, she let it sit there. She didn't go "limp" like she did after the second dose though. Did I tell you guys about that? NO, I didn't! Rewinding to dose #2 for a sec...we got the med in her mouth and she just went TOTALLY LIMP on us. It was the weirdest, funniest thing! She just sank onto the counter and stayed there. I picked her up and she was FLOPPY... was this her way of refusing to swallow it?! It was a little scary too. I was like, OH MY GOD, What the hell is she doing?? I had to shake her a little to snap her out of it. Was she in SHOCK  cuz the medicine tastes so bad?! What the HELL??
Anyway, so back to last nights episode of The Medicine Challenge! Got the meds in her mouth without too much trouble and again, she didn't wanna swallow it. I can see it in the corner of her mouth and along the gums/lips. So I thought, I'll block her nose so she has to open her mouth and get it down! HA! WORKED! :whip: She didn't GASP for air, she just opened a little bit. Now I'm thinking maybe that's how I can get her mouth open to get the medicine IN THERE first. What's hard about opening her mouth is that where all the sores are, she has them on both sides. So, when she struggles with me, and I have her face in my hands, the sores rip open. I feel so bad. I know they hurt. I can barely touch one of them with the q-tip with the SSD on it, she flinches and pulls away or closes her eyes. Poor little thing. :( I tried to do it without the little rubber spatula thingie and I'm just pushing on everything. SO, if I can get her to open a tiny bit by blocking her nostrils, I should be able to get the spatula in there without too much trouble! VOILA! :D I'll let you know it works or not!
Oh, the shot...nope. I could NOT get the air outta there without all the meds coming out too! WTH! Calling the vet today. I wasted 2 syringes. Never, ever had this problem before. It's such a tiny amount. They have an air gap in there so I can keep it frozen. I defrost it, try to push the air out, flicking and tapping, the whole bit and still...meds are gone. :banghead: Stay tuuuned....

If the medication is liquid-y (technical term right there  ) like water, then try flipping the syringe so the needle point faces the ceiling, then push the plunger EVER SO SLOWLY. Maybe that will work. :D

Called the vet. Got some advice. I pulled the plunger back more, to make the air gap larger, let all the meds dribble down, then slowly pushed it up. I also stood in the light of the glass slider door so I could see when the liquid made it up to the tip! :D That made all the difference in the world! WHEW! Glad that's over with! Gave her the shot without incident. The oral, well, once again, we struggled. More scabs came off. I can't friggin' stand it! Globbed her up again. 3 more doses then a 3 week vacation! WOO HOOO! :|

See why it's so hard to open her mouth: No matter where I try to hold her face, there's SOMETHING there.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
