Hi Munchkins! Thank you for keeping up on us and for posting! I went and found some of your stories on Hermes...poor baby. I'm so sorry for your families loss. I cried reading some posts in the RIP thread. He was quite the fighter! So sweet that he would brighten up when you guys entered the room. He loved you toooo. :love5:
I think so many people make mistakes with new baby beardies due to lack of info from the petstore! I did with my 1st one too. Thankfully, I found this site early enough & learned a great deal on diet, supplements & lighting! She was big, bright and beautiful. Hindsight's a beautiful thing too... Had I realized then, she probably died because of the boarding place, Dino would not be in this predicament right now! Spike was gone within a month after coming home from there. My son and I were just absolutely devastated. Coincidence? I think not. No more boarding...anywhere!
Anyway to answer your question about Dino's lights in the hospital tank. She can get between 7 - 10 inches from her lights on her little platform thing thats in there. I have a makeshift "log" for her to climb up. A cut papertowel roll wrapped in a towel. She gets on that to get closer if she feels the need. I went and measured after you asked! I totally understand where you would be concerned dealing with all that MBD stuff with Hermes! Even a temporary situation can do damage! I rechecked her temps too. She was a toasty 100 degrees under her light. Perfect!
I had that necrotizing skin thought go through my head too and prayed to God and everything Holy that it wouldn't be the case. I was SO AFRAID of the tail spots. They had been there for soooooo long. No open sores when it shed off! Her face has me worried too. The sores under her eyes. They don't want to go away. And the scabbing is really STUCK there. I keep telling myself "reptiles heal S.L.O.W.L.Y." Stupid vet had to go messin' with the crud, didn't she?! (That's how Dino got those sores, dumb vet, rubbing crud off with a q-tip...HARD!)
You guys went through so much with Hermes, I can see why your daughter is always looking for something with the newest addition to your family! Sounds like you are enjoying your babies and taking good care of them. I'm sure the paranoia of something happening to the new baby will wear off soon and the worry will become only enjoyment! They really do steal your heart. I saw a post of yours and I swear to you, I said the same thing to my friends after getting Spike, "I never thought I would fall in love with a REPTILE." <---TRUE STORY!
Hugs,
Sue
