(Sorry for being so incredibly slow. I was watching the Hunchback of Notre Dame and attempted to trim her claws. I did it, but she didn't enjoy it much...)
Just took her home about three hours ago. I am very happy to say that, despite her condition, she is quite active, alert, bright and healthy looking. (Except for her back, of course)
The poor dear was not living a healthy life. No wonder she's crippled. The owners fed her frozen vegetables, (warmed up in the microwave) and large crickets. There was nothing in her tank except sand, a stray cricket, a small bowl of veggies, and a giant water bowl. I switched her to paper towel for now. Sometime this weekend, I'm going over to Home Depot to pick her out some tile.
I also put in a large, cleaned rock for her to bask on. I'm going to go over to the Dollar Store within the next couple of days to buy her a couple of plastic containers that I can make into hides.
You wanna know what really bugged me? 1. They had a
UVB light but never used it. It might have prevented her condition from getting this far! Ugh. People. Luckily, they gave me the light, which I will be putting a light in soon. Sweet.
2. When I called them, they said, "she lives well with other lizards of her size...we put in some smaller lizards and when we found out she was eating them! What a pig! Haha!" I tried to laugh along, but...that's not funny. That's terrible. The poor little lizards.
Oh! And then they mentioned that they used to have another lizard in there with her. Her tank is scarcely big enough for her, let alone a second one! She claimed, "it was so adorable...they used to lay on top of each other. When she died, he (she thought that her lizard was a guy) was heartbroken! It was so sad." God girl. Don't you know they were showing dominance towards each other by laying on top of each other?! Obviously not.
Well anyway. She's getting along great! Very active, is currently very carefully surveying her surroundings. I put a bit of kale in her bowl, but I wasn't expecting her to eat. She licked it, but other then that showed no interested. She likes the rock I put in there. It's right under her light, so I imagine it to be warm. And occasionally she'll climb on her water bowl and just chill...she's so adorable!
She's very calm, patient and tame. I held her more then I should have on the first day...she let me trim her nails, but I don't think she enjoyed it much. It was for your own good. The poor girl tripped on her own feet multiple times because of her lengthy claws.
Everyone who's seen her so far has called her "messed up" or "ugly"...at least I can see how beautiful she is~ <333
