Cricket Virus?!?!

What the heck is going on with this?

Odd that you mention it - I've gotten cricket a thousand at a time for almost two years now with no problems. The last batch, though, died off in batches within a couple of weeks. I was thinking it was because the seller had a huge rotten potato in with them, but I'm wondering if other folks have had problems. Luckily I have Phoenix worms, butters and supers, so crickets aren't essential.

You could try dubia roaches if you can't find a cricket supplier that works for you.

Hello,

Ugh, the cricket virus may still be going around!
It was a problem major time a couple of years ago & some breeders quit selling for awhile it was so bad. They were very limited in quantity when they did sell.
Where did you purchase from?
Awhile ago I got some from www.mulberryfarms.com & had no problems at all. I breed our own, but refresh our stock from time to time.

I am not surprised that you breed your own. You are so gifted when it comes to the beardies. I had tried to breed my own and when they were pin worms I would spray them like I was told and they would always drown so I gave up. Maybe one day I will try again.
I was not aware of this cricket virus. I had just pordered some from a breeder I have been ordering from for awhile- Chirp n Time and they are dpoing great.

Dubia is Illegal in the US
Jessica from rio reptiles referred me to ghunns or something like that I forgot its saved somewhere on my computer. I hope they are good. I trust Jessica and Cheryl.

You may have something confused. A lot of people on this site have dubia or have tried dubias. I have a dubia colony right now and on the 'for sale' list there a bunch of people selling dubias.
I THINK it is illegal in Florida though.
Dubias are great food to feed your bds.

Dubia aren't illegal. I have a colony. And I frequently see them auctioned off on facebook.

Do not use Ghanns. There was a thread in here from many people who had issues from them

My bad they are not illegal in the us just south fl. I know people who use ghanns and are fine. Its a lot of he said she said to filter. Dubia I hear are good for a treat not regular feedings but I guess it depends on the dragon.

Hello,

It isn't hard to breed crickets, it just takes a bit of work & time. They are so small so misting can't be done. You just keep a sponge for a water source for them along with food.
Are your crickets doing good now?

I gave up breeding crix if you are talking to me. i would love to try again. But don't you have to sprsy the egg laid dirt? My problem was once they start to hatch the ground would start to harden up so I would spray a fine mist and would end up killing the ones trying to get out.
I was also told to spray the newbies but the sponge idea would be better. Thanks Tracie.
