Buddy... is not a boy, she's a momma! 3 times now *Pics*

So Buddy is almost a year now (from when I got HER from petsmart). Thought she was a boy because I self examined her and she got those pore things around her vent. Today Buddy decided to lay an egg! (infertile)
Buddy has been SOO active for the last couple days or maybe over a week.. thought "he" was going through an adolence phase. Guess not...

Is there anything I should be doing for her while she is going through this?

I provided a sandbox for her (which she is making a mess!!)

How long will this last, and is it every year?
Any tips will be very appreciated. I'm also going to do some research. Wasn't expecting this at all..

Thanks.

I agree, I think you would know if she was going to lay eggs or not. I thought that Buddy may have had eggs before because she stopped eating for awhile and acted strange but the "pregnancy behavior" is pretty obvious. Once you know what it means anyway. I think she would of eventually laid an egg in her tank if she was. If her poop is normal and has been normal, you are probably okay. Once her poop is just urate and a tiny puddle, that's when you should start putting her in her sandbox. She might not want to be in it right away, like Buddy was. I had to leave her in there for an hour before she started digging then laid her eggs. She was stratching to get out. I tried 3-4 times putting her in there and taking her out because she wasn't ready.
Maybe she was just in a funk or something?
Is she back to normal now?

By the way, I'm away from Buddy. It was very hard saying goodbye. Sounds corny but it's true. I hope my bf takes good care of her, I know it won't be how I did. I spoil her too much.

I'm sure she will be fine, dear. It won't be quite as good as your care, but she will be okay. And will she be glad to see you when you get home!

I'm off for 3 days myself, to visit cousins, so my dragons are all in the care of my dragonsitter, it'll be so strange not to see them for 3 days, I've never gone away this long b4, so I know how you feel. I also know she'll be so glad to see you when you get back. I can just see the expression on her face "Where the h*** have YOU BEEN!"
It's hard not to worry, but I know she's in capable hands, just like my dragons are. So try to enjoy your time away...and I know you're getting updates, right? :D

Thanks so much. That helps a great deal with what to look for it she does carry eggs at any time!

Have a wonderful trip and yes your baby will be fine. I was just away for 3 days and left Venus with my hubby. They do actually miss you too! He said day 1 she ate but that was the day I left. Day 2 she came out but went back in her favorite spot and didnt want to come out. Day 3 she didnt come out at all. When I got home yesterday evening she was laying in her favorite spot under her log and had not been out all day again according to my hubby. He said she was dark in color and laying around the last 2 days. She heard me talking ....came and peeked over her tank door...turned her beautiful orangie colored beard and got on her rock to bask!

Venus when she heard her mommie...lol

I do get updates but it's still not the same. I guess she is still eating. Even salad!
My neice is so funny, she got a rubber igunana looking toy and gave it to me and told me it was Buddy's sister. Thought that was really cute.

Everytime I talk to my bf on the phone I ask about Buddy, I think he is getting a little annoyed about me asking but I don't care. I still ask, everytime. :D

Oh I wish I could post the picture of Buddy that my bf's mom sent me. It looks like she is pouting. Soo cute! Reminded me of the picture you posted. I can try to get it on here but it would be small and unclear =[

But she is doing okay without me, they were all telling me she was running around today for over an hour and still eating/basking. Everything is A-Okay!

I think when I get back I'm going to get some waxworms as a treat for her... and for her putting up with my bf instead of me. hehe.

BTW, you beardie does look like my Buddy, or should I say my Buddy looks like your Venus? Do you have a clearer picture of her colors?

Good to hear Buddy is doing good without you there. It always makes us feel better when and if we have to leave knowing they will be okay with someone else caring for them. I am lucky that I know if I have to go away for a longer period then a couple of days the petstore owners I purchased her from volunteered to keep her for me at no charge. Can't get much better then that!

I tried to get some good pics while Ms. Diva (Venus) was tanning herself a while ago! She actually gets lighter than this so will take some more later when she isn't being such a Diva...LOL.

What a cutie!
They do look awefully similiar. I'm glad I got a orange/yellow beardie, it was that or the gray/black one. I got her from petsmart and I didn't really know about any of the special breeds and colors. But I am happy with what Buddy looks like. =]
I wonder if beardies are like snowflakes, not one the same?
As in design/color/pattern...

I bet they are like snowflakes and zebras. I am sure that even though they may look exactly alike, none are EXACTLY alike. Where one zigs the other zags.

I always liked beardies but had no intention of ever getting one. My story of how I ended up with Venus is actually kind of crazy. My daughter, her daughter and I use to go every week to the music store beside a family owned petshop for her daughter's violin lesson. We started going in the petstore because we thought it woud be a good way to get her daughter over her fear of animals because they only had puppies, reptiles, fish and birds. We started going to the back to see the snakes and lizards and turtles.

My daughter held one of the beardie babies and loved it. We kept going in every saturday after violin lessons and one day they had what they called a sibling trio of beardies together in the tank. There were 2 males and a female. The males were very active and the female was more laid back. We started stopping by the petstore after that maybe 2 or 3 times a week and we always would hold the female because she was so easy going.

After about 3 weeks or so we noticed one day when we went in the females eye was swollen closed and the tip of her tail had been nipped off. We got so upset ebacsue by then we were so attached to her. We asked way they didnt move her out of the tank with the males because obviously they were taking all the food and injuring her. Probably not intentionally at their age but non the less they were. They said they didn't really have a seperate tank to put her in. That night it really bothered me. The next day we went back and I asked the owner if I bought her right then and there would they come up with a way to put her in a tank alone and give we 2 weeks to set up a habitat at home for her and I would buy all of my supplies to put it together along with her from them. They agreed and actually got all my things for me at their dealer rate.

AND THAT'S HOW I BECAME A BEARDIE MOMMIE! And it's been love ever since...LoL

I got Venus a new tank that I'm about to put together and I noticed Buddy has a hammock like the one I got Venus. I was wondering if they stick well? I have fake plants in the tank I have for her now and it seems like everyday I have to restick it to the glass because the suction doesn't seem to hold for long. So I was wondering if the same happens with the hammock? I thought about using the foam adhesive that came with the ledge I am going to put in to adhere the hammock to the glass as well.

Aww that's a really cute story. You basically rescued a beardie! And it does sound like the petstore cares, sucks that they didn't have enough room to seperate them but it is really sweet of them to take up on your offer! I hate reading stories about how bad chain stores are with handling the beardies, or any other animal. It's so sad!! I'm constantly looking at craigslist at bearded dragons and small reptiles, it can get really sad!! I don't know why I keep looking, just makes me mad. I can't afford another one but some days I really think about getting another one that really needed it. I've read a lot of rescuing stories and it amazes me! I'd like to think I would do that for a innocent lizard too.. I just have to wait til I got the money and room for another one. Buddy is enough all ready! Can't imagine having more than one, it would be crazy awesome but whoa!

How I got buddy wasn't that awesome of a story. My bf and I get bored sometimes and just check out petstores, we were in Petco and seen baby and juvenile beardies. We were thinking about getting a lizard or snake or something, we wanted a pet but I'm allergic to pet dander. I could deal with a dog but a lizard sounded better.. maybe easier?? (not!) The guy feeding the beardies at Petco and was talking to us about the care for them and everything. He was feeding one of the juvenile beardies with it on his shoulder. I thought it was so neat. Then he put the beardie on my bf's shoulder. Beardie was totally okay with it. Let my bf handle him. That shocked me and I immediately wanted a beardie. I knew they were the one for me. Couple days later, bought all the gear.. got buddy! I didn't really pick her out, the lady who was getting her for me just asked if I wanted a dark or light one, I said a lighter one, not knowing what that meant. That's when she picked out Buddy! Been in love ever since. But I did think it was wierd that the traveling case I got for her to go to my house from the store was a bowl and lid. Small bowl. Good thing I lived in town, could you imagine if I had to travel over an hour. Poor beardie. =[

--For the hammock.. well it falls a lot. It never use to but I moved it all the time and kind of wore out the little hole the suction cup goes thru. Usually if I lick it (or clean it) it sticks for awhile... but not always. It's kind of a pain but she loves it.

I do the same thing! When I do actually deep clean her tank, I bust out the Windex and the suction cups stick well. But other than that, I lick my fingers and re-stick it. Her hammock is the only thing I have that has the suction cups, I'm not a big fan of them. Haha. I would get rid of her hammock but she uses that thing constantly. I'm just not going to buy anything else with suction cups.. well I say that but we'll see. Ha!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
