Silkwoms are THE BEST.
Small 1 inch long silks are great for giving a very young hatchling a fabulous start in life.
Mediums 2 inch long silks are pretty much a meal (3 or 4 are a great substite for 10 - 12 crickets for a hatchling's meal).
large 3 inch long silks are great staple or treat (if aren't breeding your own silks) for an adult beardie.
The moths are good fodder too.
Don't need special gear to breed your own silkworms either, they are easy to raise from eggs to moths.
Best way to get started with silkworms is to buy about 500 eggs and some silkworm chow (unless you can access a large leafy mulberry tree that HASN'T been sprayed. The eggs will hatch in a week or 2 , can raise them very easily on reconstituted chow (comes as a dry powder that you mix with boiling water to a paste and then nuke in the microwave and cool , I form chow sausages by wrapping portions while still hot and doelike in gladwrap and rolling and then sealing and refrigerating til I need some , I then cut a piece off and roll it to about 1mm thick (leaflike) to feed to the worms). A month after hatching you'll have worms about mealworm size. 2 months and they are full grown and forming cocoons , a couple of weeks later the moths emerge and mate and start laying eggs (each female moth will lay about 500 eggs ,and surplus eggs can be sold or once they have changed colour to grey can be stored in zip lock bags or little glass sample bottles still on the paper or cardboard they were laid on and are stuck to until you want to hatch them.
If you are in the northern hemisphere, silkworms will be in season now and should be easy to find for sale. The eggs are available virtually year round as breeders keep their stock refrigerated until sold, they hatch pretty soon after warming up.
Blue blowfly gents (maggots) and their pupae and the flies are a good feeder for hatchlings when very young , but you need LOTS of them.
Some breeders here (Australia) use superworms as a staple for their adult beardies , I wouldn't but they are great treat for adult beardies and are trouble free to keep , staying in laval form for weeks at room temperature , their pupae are good treat too.
