We will have to try and get him some baby food tomorrow, see if he'll eat that. I don't really like force feeding, especially since we are giving him that awful medicine, so if he liked that, that would be awesome.

We're going to pick up some wax worms tomorrow, get him some fattening food in his belly, if he'll eat tomorrow. *Fingers Crossed*

Yeah, they shouldn't be hurt by going to the vet. I think that was pretty awful of her to do that to him. I dont blame him for trying to bite her! How would she like someone pressing hard on her eyes and then forcing their thumb into her mouth?!?!? I get a headache just thinking about the eye thing! She should know better than that.

Yeah, if is pooping fine, and was bathed yesterday, just let him sleep. I pray he does better tomorrow.

Beardies tend to LOVE the baby food, so it should work for him if he's willing to eat at all. If you cant find baby food pumpkin, just get canned.

Please let me know how he's doing. Im hoping a moderator comes on soon and can help more.

Yeah... we're not taking him back to that vet for sure....

Hopefully he will eat it, he is ridiculously picky though.

Thank you for all of your advice =) Hopefully he is having a better day tomorrow, today was brutal.

I will update in the morning and let you know if there is any improvement, i'm hoping today was just a bad day and he'll feel better in the morning.

Hello,

Please take him off of the Chlor palm for now. It is not an approved drug for Reptiles. It was given for what, a respiratory infection?
Really the drug of choice for that is Baytril.
I am really appalled at the pressing down of the eyes, your poor dragon!
Try to keep the tank as dry as possible right now, as it sounds like he has had quite a respiratory issue & may have had a reaction to the Chlor palm as well. Do not bathe him or mist him right now.
You will want to keep the tank around 75 or so overnight to help his immune system out right now. You can also get some bee pollen to add into his babyfood to help with his immune system & appetite.

Let us know how he is doing.

Tracie,

First of all, thank you for your reply.

We are stopping with the Chlor Palm, it was a fairly rough night, he was gasping a lot... Today he is pretty alert, every time I come into the room to check on him he has to turn and look at me, which is better then he was last night. He's moving around his tank, hasn't touched his veggies/fruit yet, but it's there for him if he wants to try.

I called our Avian and Exotics vet clinic this morning, and they advised that under some circumstances chlor palm can be given, but he shouldn't be getting worse, and that we should probably take him back to the vet. I explained to them that I wasn't comfortable taking him back to our previous clinic (didn't get into the details) and just let them know that I wasn't exactly comfortable with her handling of him or her experience with reptiles in general. So I am bringing him in to them for a check up on Saturday (unfortunately that is the soonest they are able to book an appt. unless I want to go for the after hours with hefty fee attached appt...) so until then, we will be following your advice as to the bathing/misting and get the baby food for him tonight and see if we can track down the bee pollen as well. How much of this should we be adding?

Thanks again.

Also forgot to add that he hasn't been coughing or bubbling out his mouth today. A few hard breaths here and there, but much better that way... I'm thinking it may have been so extreme last night due to that medicine...

oh my goodness im so sorry to hear of your and your beardies pain through all this.
wow i would had been yelling at the vet for handling a dragon like that, she made him cry out! thats appaling, both my dragons have had to go the vet recently due to parasites and worms and they didnt mind it at all, they had a feel of their tummies, check all their limbs, their mouths, only once my vet had to open my boy, Mischief's mouth by pulling on his beard, he didnt seem to overally mind it but instead it made me squel, lol.
i really hope for your dragons sake that the next vet you will see will ease his comprehension of the whole ordeal and treat him much gentler. poor lil thing, i bet he thought he was being attacked by a big monster so no wonder he tried to bite, if one of mine ever bit our vet id be saying 'there that was all your fault, serves you right', lol, because they certainly dont bite unless they feel its completely necessary.
keep us updated on the lil guy.
:)

Hello,

Yes, under some circumstances, but it is not the drug of choice. Baytril, given properly, is safe. I think he was having a reaction to it, so great you took him off of it.
So he is doing better today & is breathing better as well?
The bee pollen should be easily found at most healthfood stores. Just use a decent small pinch, & add it in with his babyfood, daily. It is very safe, & should help his immune system out & give him energy too.
Make sure to keep his tank around 75 at night, too, just in case his respiratory system is still having trouble.

Keep us posted on him.

His tank stayed between 74-76 last night, so that worked out.

He isn't as coughy today, still the occasional mouth breathing, but for the most part he sounds better, only the smallest whistle from his nose when he breathes now too.

I gave him quite the selection of his favorite salad today, all he ate was one blueberry though, I did manage to get him to eat two worms as well. Just waiting for the boyfriend to get off of work and then we are going to get some baby food, bee pollen and more worms for the little guy.

It did seem like he was reacting horribly to it, and he's just too smart, he would see you with the syringe and just bolt. Poor baby.

I thought I would add some pictures, some taken just after we got him when he was a skinny dehydrated little guy, some before the dreaded vet visit and a couple taken today....

This is Todd.

This is when we first got him, poor guy was so dehydrated, and on evil sand.

Hello
I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your beardie.Sandi PM'd me last night to look at your thread but it looks like Tracie thankfully jumped in.I totally agree that your little guy should NOT be on Chlor Palm.I know some vets have given it before but its harsh and even in dogs has a chance of causing liver failure.I think you did the right thing by taking him off of it.The first vet you took him to sounded quite uneducated in reptiles especially since she couldnt open his mouth which is pretty easy to do actually and pressing on his eyes :banghead: What exactly did she think this would accomplish?Since he is off the meds until Saturday you might want to up your temps a little bit just in case its an RI.Try getting the basking to 105F and try making sure night temps dont go below 70F.If he seems to be having trouble breathing you can try placing him on an angle head down at night after he falls asleep to help drain any fluids in his lungs.
Looks like he has already made wonderful improvements since you got him home though. His belly is looking great!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
