Can you imagine if this were to pass? I can see anarchy, that's for sure. One thing that bothered me and made me laugh is all these big sites were doing the whole black out thing, heck even this site did it (which i was proud of btw) but yet facebook, who would definitely be affected by this bill, did nothing. You would think they would seeing as how they have a lot to lose if it passes. Oh well, just my two cents.

You are quite right. I'm really not certain why FB didn't join in. I actually read something about why but I had a migraine at the time and everything just gets dumped in the brain delete bin after one of those :p

just to celebrate a little more...has everyone had a chance to see these numbers? http://www.sopastrike.com/numbers

Thanks a ton for the info, Carrie. I would really appreciate you posting info you dig up about OPEN here. I'm so completely bogged down in work stuff and using all my free time to build the new viv for my babies that I barely have time to really be involved like I should. Usually I'm the one notifying all of my friends and family about the latest "GOVERNMENT CONSPIRACY" (Bwahaha!), but I just can't keep up with it all right now. All help is appreciated.

well, as of three days ago Google supported OPEN which stands for The Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act. I wonder if they used a computer to find some word that was catchy in that bunch of letters???!!! anyway....
OPEN would require the Justice Department to police sites that provide links to foreign based pirates. Then it puts the International Trade Commission in charge of enforcement, which (if I'm following this right) is supposed to take the courts out of the mix. I've read that going through the ITC is supposed to somehow be cheaper and faster than the traditional judicial system. I've read that OPEN can target advertisers on pirating sites who are US based and I've heard that the Entertainment Moguls aren't as keen on it because they think it will cost them more money to pursue infringements. I think OPEN is still being tweaked and I recall reading that they wouldn't be trying to rush it through like they did SOPA and PIPA.
Now I want to know exactly how the justice department is going to monitor the entire web to find links to pirate sites...that sounds like a BIG department :D or a lot of work at home guys with a dream job!! I mean, you'd want to make sure the entire movie is there, right? But I digress. :p I am slightly peeved that the Entertainment Moguls want to pan off the costs of pursuing this on to the government which is broke. Yes, they are losing money but at least they are still making it...raking it in. They can and do take people to court and the raid on Mega shows that they can and do get things done without any new laws or huge justice department/ ITC changes.
BTW. any of the above could be wrong, I didn't get any sleep so... LOL I'm off to take a nap.

Thanks Carrie. Sound to me like the Entertainment Industry needs to police their own stuff. I mean, if I went to the police and told them that I thought someone had come into my business and stolen some clothes off the racks and I wanted them to randomly scour the planet looking for them... well, they would laugh at me. I mean, they need some sort of leads or information. They don't have the resources to just go on blind hunts. Seems to me that the Entertainment Industry knows where these things are going on and should be able to go and press charges against the people / websites they find doing it. It IS NOT the government's job to go and hunt down every little discrepancy to protect each individual in the country. Heck, they can't even protect our borders while American citizens are being beheaded!!!!

Ah, well, the companies aren't the police, they have to turn to someone for help. I do have a theory that they don't want the bad press it generates when they go after such things, full scale. Every time they go after a college student or even Mega they get, at best, mix reviews. Lord forbid when they trace a bunch of downloads back to some young teen and try to hold the parent accountable.. LOL They are just being cast as the perpetual bad guy. So why not let someone else be the bad guy and save money, right? Win/Win. They do have the ability now to press copy rite infringement charges against people. They even seem to have the ability to close down a site (megaupload)while working with authorities. If they can do all that, I can only wander why they need to pass these other laws? Anyone have any opinions on that?

I would like to add that Piracy is bad. I'm not supporting it in anyway. I've never been a fan of big entertainment companies, either, particular record and book publishers because I think they cheat their creative people. (Well, unless they are the super successful, money makers, and some times not even then) But to steal their works only hurts those people more. Just felt the need to toss that in. :D

I agree with you 100%. Like you said, they have plenty of laws to protect their intellectual property. In America we do not infringe upon the rights of the many to protect the rights of the few. And that is what these laws are suggesting. That's why I feel, if the afflicted party knows of something specific being done with their property, then that information should be reported to the authorities and it should be pursued. However, to suggest that the government should be patrolling the internet in total searching for any possible crimes against this relatively small group of people at the expense of the freedoms of everyone else, ummm... Nope!

Oh, on another note... I get to go with my grandmother and my son to see Newt Gingrich speak on Tuesday evening. And then on Wednesday morning (if I can get my son's school to agree) my grandmother will take my son to see Rick Santorum speak in the morning. It's wonderful because my grandfather was involved in politics and I grew up in all of it. There are photos of me at like 4 years old wearing t-shirts that said "Rogers for Sheriff". So, because of that, Grandma raised me to be very aware politically and she is jumping in to help make sure my son learns about the whole process and that he needs to be involved. Santorum is not her candidate, plus she's 82 years old, but she's willing to give up her Wednesday morning to share this with her Great Grandson. Isn't that the coolest?

Sounds like you have an amazing Grandma. I'd say tell her hi from me if that doesn't just seem weird. :D

Hello,

At the expense of rocking the boat, here it goes. :D
All of this SOPA & PIPA stuff is nothing but a charade to distract everyone from what is really going on right now which is the Elite trying to lead everyone to war because the government is broke!
Facebook is a government front. Google is a government front. They all work for & with the government & do nothing but monitor everyone's online activity with all of their tracking cookies that they use. They want to try & censor the internet because of the alternative media getting too much information out there that they don't want people to know.
We are no longer controlled by our government but by foreign interests & the UN.
Does your grandmother like Newt Gingrich? Oh I hope not. I have nothing good to say about him, he supports war & abortion & the NDAA as well.

That is great your son is learning about politics!

Hi Tracie,
You can't rock the boat! It's a nice big friendly boat with plenty of room for all!
I met someone who used to work for Paypal (I work with him now) After what he told me about paypal, I just can't bring myself to use it anymore. 'nuf said there!

I'm a voter cast adrift at the moment. I can't seem to find a candidate I would trust with a nickle let alone this country. There are lots of problems that need fixing and if congress and the senate could just clue in that it's a big boat, too and work and think together then maybe we would be in better shape. I bet we agree on more than we disagree on. I bet we all do. And if nothing else, we all love our beardies :D

Oh, Tracie... don't get me started. Grandma loves Gingrich and is having a hard time choosing between him & Romney. Argh! A conversation on that one just gets my blood pressure skyrocketing. I will not lay off the Santorum bandwagon and extol his virtues to anyone I can pin down long enough to beat over the head about it.

And anyone in my grandmothers field of ideas says the same thing... well, of course Santorum is the best candidate BUT... and it goes from there. Unelectable, not enough money, name recognition problems... it goes on and on.

It's all I can do to not just scream! How do you deal with that? I mean really! If he's not your candidate, fine. But when he is, BUT... ARGH!!!!

Told you not to get me started.

Hello,

I totally agree!
I know, don't get me started either.....LOL
The Congress & Senate are part of the problem though, they all work for special interests & get paid off so they don't care anymore.
There are a few sure, but not enough to stop things! They could have stopped the Health Care Bill but didn't, or the NDAA & other things, but they chose not to. Shame on them, but the majority of Americans are in a trance anyway.
I am hoping that Sanitarium, oops, I mean Santorum, shoots himself in the foot soon anyway. Gingrich is nothing but garbage so I don't know who could even vote for him?
Most simply don't understand & believe everything that the tv tells them which is all made up media lies anyway. ARRG!!

My blood pressure goes up also, you aren't the only one.

*puts on his tin foil hat*

I don't want to get too deep into politics, or break the rules, but I just want to say that I agree with most of what has been said on here.

Tracie, while we're on the subject, what are your thought on Ron Paul?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
