he hated it!! got very stressed and panicked. Tried in a large tupperware tub, lowering my hand in and gently tipping the water towards him, blackbearded me and went in a huff for 20mins, lol

about 15-20min soak is good, although my dragon is still getting used to baths, so I only keep him in for about 10min or so. keep the water warm but not HOT! much like a bath for a baby, if if feels hot to you it's definitely too hot for your dragon. Fill the sink/tub whatever up to about your dragons elbows or shoulders. If he's skittish then rub his back or belly to calm him, or put a towel in the bottom of the sink for added stability & security. Be careful not to bathe him too close to bed time. I've read that your dragon can get fungus growing under his scales if he doesn't fully dry. Give your dragon enough time to bask and fully dry out before lights out. Also I bathe my guy a few times a week.. about every 2-3 days..

also be aware that you dragon most likely will poop in the bath water..

also take pictures.. we love to see 'em here on these boards. Also welcome to BD.org :blob8: :blob8:

yes watevr she or he just said but mine go in twice a month unless he is brumating then twice a week but i do mine warm and 2 or 3 inches high i give him a clean rock were he goes and thn i leave him there for at least 5 minutes but i use a cup to drip water over his back and then i gentle rub his head with my finger or a damp towel gentley for those who will try this then he can bask for a few hours

All 3 of my dragons get a bath every 2-3 days. about 15 min each. Yopu check the temp of the water with your wrist, warm but it shouldn't hurt you in the least bit at all. The reason you bath thyem often is because not all of the will drink still water from a bowl, they can absorb bath water through their vent and it will help keep them hyrdated and healthy. It does help the shed but the hydration is more important.

Misting is no good.

Some beardies don't like the bath, but like anything, they need some time to get used to it. They often puff up as a natural reaction to keep them floating, even if the water isn't that deep.

A good source of security can come from having a dish cloth in the bath with them to hold onto. Your hands are always welcome in there.

Bathing is your best and most effective means of hydration. Misting is more for your tropical creatures. Spraying them could result in an URI. Which is quite pricey and nasty to deal with.

You should be bathing, in my opinion, around 2-3 times a week. Every other day is most common. That is what I do. I offer baths every day to help with shedding when necessary.

Actually, gently spraying the top of the beardies head is the best way to get them to drink. This is not to be confused with misting which,as Chellybeans pointed out,is for a tropical vivarium. I don't bathe my babies...it is terrifying and they can[ by huffing+ puffing] easily inhale water in the blink of an eye,if left unattended for a few seconds can drown. Also,a big no-no is that new owners think that they should bath at " bedtime" or be held in a cold towel and cuddled [ we can warm up,they can't] which could easily be a cause for respiratory infections...getting chilled. So in 16 years,my beardies have drank by being sprayed and they stay fully hydrated. Also important to supply wet shredded greens...mine love them and will eat as many greens as I put in the cage. I don't know what breeders are producing babies that won't eat greens, but if you start out by finely shredding and dropping the little pieces of greens in the tank[ on a flat paper plate if you are using a substrate] my guys are all eating greens by about 7-10 days. Works every time...they are attracted to the movement.

Just a plastic spray bottle from any Wal-mart,gardening center,Dollar General.etc. People but them for spraying plants. Just be sure to do it gently, sort of on the top of the nose...ocassionally the whole body but not at night close to bedtime. Hatchlings should be done 2 times a day.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
