Thanks for posting that, is it hard to keep the sand in one spot? I thought about doing something like that later down the road but the tile is sooooo easy to clean....
I've used sand for my adults for several years. Assassin had newspaper for the first few months, then some tile/some sand. You are right, the tile is way easier to deal with! That's the reason for adding more tile and limiting the sand. Hubby is going to be putting a 1X2 board in at that end of the viv next to the tile to help keep the sand in place better-kind of sandbox style. For now, I just brush it back to the pile. I didn't grout the tile, so I can remove one or all pieces as needed. I like having some sand in there for them as they do like to dig and it gives them an area for some activity.

Mine did the same thing when we added tile. Took them about a week before they would even walk around on it. I was thinking about asking my hubby to make me a perm sandbox in my two who keep laying eggs vivs. I love the color of your tile you chose.
He was too funny! He tried to reach his salad dish from the log! It slid so he was forced to get down! He was kind of tiptoeing around today, getting used to it. It didn't seem to be bothering him so much today!
Newbie, yeah, he will be pissed! It's that dominant male thing! LOL I'm anxious to see if he attacks any of the fake rock/cave structures when we put them in! My first big male did that when we added a large corner hide for him! He blackened his bearded, headbobbed, hissed at it, then dived at it trying to bite it! It was hilarious! It turned out to be his favorite sleeping spot after a couple days. It takes them a few days to a week to adjust to changes, but they get over it!
