Is it really necessary for me to get a 120 gallon tank for an adult size? Can I save money and keep him in some type of tank that is less than 120 gallons?

A 120 will give you a decent amount of space for a thermal gradient and enrichment. A smaller enclosure will be more limiting and cramped. Many people use 40b for the life of the dragon but keep in mind for the average size adult that is only 2x their length long and 1x wide, not much room to move around and stay active.

Bigger is always better, 40 gallons is ok but not great. It will last until they are fully grown, then you could either buy a larger tank or build one. I haven't done it myself but I don't think it is too expensive, you can look around for plans.

Ya, I agree 40 will do for a while but it will be better later on to get or build a bigger one. It is always cheaper if you do it yourself and, you have that great sense of accomplishment at the end. You have time to improve.

Am I correct in my understanding that the crossfire design 4' x 2' x 2' Is big enough for a beardie even full grown?

YES AT LEAST that big FOR A SINGLE ADULT beardie.

A foot print on the tank of AT LEAST 4ft LONG x 2ft WIDE .... more is going to be better.

IMO it's cruelty to house a fully grown adult central bearded in a 40Gal tank. FULL STOP.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
