We’ll just changed bulb to 100w and checked basking temp but it’s up to 44 degrees c.
Do I bring temp down using thermostat?

Can’t really lower basking spot. It’s about 8” from bilb
yes use the thermostat and see what you get

Hi

My boy has been the same for a few months now he is my first bearded dragon as well. He has gone off all food bugs and salad. His temps are good. He just seem very sleepy all the time I still bath him and he still wants to come out. Been told he is having a slight brumation so try and not worrie too much. I have been told to keep an eye on his weigh as it has dropped slightly not much as there weight does go up and down at time. Ragnar is 15 months now 20inch long and his weight is 485g so he is still a good weight. I do still offer food everyday just incase he will eat. He has had 2 bugs in a week that is all. Still drinks water when he is in the bath. This website has helped alot. Try not stress to much as he will come out this when he is ready :) will attach a photo so you can see. Your boy is gorgeous and looks great 👍

Our 12 month old bearded dragon ‘Scales’ has started acting weird.

All of a sudden he’s not eating any salad or bugs, and has been hiding in the corner of his Viv.

We also noticed he was digging a little at his reptile carpet, and has been sleeping a lot through the days.

We did bath him two days ago and he went to toilet etc.

Could this be his first ever brumation?

As you can tell, Scales is our first bearded dragon, so we are a little concerned. View attachment 73156
Also looks like your boy is going thought a shead so that also puts them off food. My boy is sheading too.

Just to add to the info.

Temps with 75w bulb
Basking 40 (measured with IR gun)
Hot side 32.5 (probe)
Cold side 24 (probe)

Temps with 100w bulb
Basking 44 (measured with Thermocouple)
Hot side 35.5 (probe)
Cold side 26.5 (probe)

I have just found his old basking log, which is a lot flatter, should increase distance from basking lamp by about 4”.

I will also tweak thermostat

I also have a tile that stored the heat so when he isn't right under his basking spot he lays on the tile. I have just took a pic there the now that I will attach.

What is the bulb directly above that log? It is way too close --- distance should be at least 6"

Thats his basking light the bulb is tucked right up in the lamp shade so it is about 4in away from him. Plus he always lays down there doesn't really stand up was only like that cause I had just put him back in. Do you think I should reduce the heat since its abit close? Or just tilt the lamp up?

I would move it up at least 6 " and get a digital probe thermometer on the log to see what the temp is

Well it’s the first full day with 100w bulb, I’ve tweaked the thermostat and adjusted basking area, and now temperature seems good.

Basking area 40c
Warm side 35.5
Cooler side 26.5

Scales has been a lot more active.

He ate some bugs and now he’s been going back and for between basking log and cooler area on top of his house.

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
