    Housing 1000 crickets

sounds like an 18 gallon tote. I keep several thousand in one. Just make sure you have lots of hides(paper towel tubes, egg crates, etc) and food and water. You will have a few deaths, especially if you bought adult criks. Just an end of life cycle. If you are only feeding one or two...

    New Dragon Owner Lighting Question

Ditch the night light. Get a reptisun 10, as stated by previous poster. You can pick up a 24 inch single tube, T8 fixture from Walmart, for about $10. The Reptisun is going to cost you about $24 plus shipping. Still cheaper the a petstore chain. Good luck.

    Cleaning out camera/Found these

Just looking through my pictures, and found these pics of Bella. They were from when I first got her last year. I thought they were funny, so I thought I would share. My vicious cricket killer Believe it or not, this is not the weirdest position I have seen her in, but maybe the...

    Free-roaming (sorta) Dubias in enclosure?

I think roaches would be fine. The ones that do not get eaten, are just going to hide anyway. I do not think they would stress a dragon out(not like criks do) My schedule does not allow two feedings either. I leave for work, two hours before my dragon gets up. I toss a nice salad in, in...

    Cricket and Roach colonies

Use the search function on this board. There is a ton of stuff on roaches, and I have made a few posts on crickets. I found all my cricket info on google. Just type in "breeding crickets". You can also do that same search on youtube. A lot of good videos on there. Hope this helps

    Won't eat anything but supers.

With my beardie, and a lot of others comments I have read, beardies seem to grow tired of certain foods at certain times. My Bella used to eat like 40 to 60 adult criks at a time. She did not eat but 5 last night. So I supplemented with a few Dubia and 5 or 6 supers. She is loving her...

    Warm enough for Dubia's?

Me??? I started by hot gluing an 8"x8" piece of screen to the lid on my tote and setting a dome type fixture on top, but I lost a lot of heat that way, and I got tired of moving the light to get in the bin. So now I use ceramic ceiling type light fixtures($1.49 @ Home Depot). I just cut a...

    Breeding crix

Yes, when I pull the container, I put it in another 18 gallon tote, with heat. I use 60 watt light bulbs and ceramic ceiling type fixtures($1.49 @ Home Depot) inside my bins. Leave the light on all the time, at least until they are a 1/4". I usually just keep them at room temp from 1/4"...

    Warm enough for Dubia's?

I have a 60 watt red night/heat lamp inside my bin. I feel much better about a light bulb than a heating pad, as far as a fire hazzard. My temps are 90 to 95, depends on outside temps. It got up to 70 degrees here this weekend, and my bin temps got well over 100.

    Breeding crix

I use coconut fiber(bed-a-beast, eco earth, etc) for the egg laying media. Holds moisture better than soil. You can not let the bedding dry out. Leave it with the adult crix for 4 to 10 days(depends on how many adults you have). 1000 crix= 4 to 5 days, 100 crix=8 to 10 days. I started with...

    bio pod

There is a guy(on the internet, somewhere) that is making his own out of various tubing and a five gallon bucket. I researched it, quite extensively. It has been a while, and my memory is not what it used to be. He was working on a second generation design a few months ago. Google BSF...

A few questions on breeding crickets?

Your setup sounds fine. My first 2 attempts were not successful. I used dirt from my backyard. Third go round, I baked my dirt to sterilize it. I had 800 to 1000 criks breeding. I left it in for 10 days or so. Waaayyyy tooooo long. I ended up with 10,000+ crickets hatching. With 1000...

my baby beardie wont eat salad, help!!

I forgot. I have read many many times, that babies tend to grow in spurts. I have read that a baby will grow several inches, in just a month or so. Then nothing for a month or two. Then grow again. As long as your baby has food, supplements, and good lighting, you will be fine. Dont...

my baby beardie wont eat salad, help!!

Dont sweat it. Most babies do not eat greens.(some do though, from what I have heard) They usually do not start eating greens until they are older. Mine is over a year old, and she does not show much interest in any greens, just the occasional fruit. As long as you supplement with calcium...

    Crickets

The general consensus is...all they can eat in ten minutes, two or three times a day for babies. I have heard several people say, some of their babies can eat 100 to 200 pinheads a day. Thats alot a criks. Mine was a large juvi, when I got her. She is approximately 14 to 15 months now...
