I was just wondering if anyone had a biopod and how it works. I know the basics but what I'm wondering is do the flies just fly in and out as they please? I live in Iowa and it couldn't be left outside. I know I would have to buy some to start it out. I've asked places that sell them and haven't got a responce.

If they can fly in and out as they please is there anyway to modify it so they cant? Do the maggots climb into that bin as easy as they advertise? Has a nice price tag on it wana make sure I can actually use it before purchase.

Thanks any input be appreciated

Compostmania.com has your answers. Call Carl 214-509-6000 x101 7am-4pm EST.

The pods are designed to force the mature grubs (last cycle before turning to flies) to fall into a collection bin. If you empty the bin, you won't have flies. If you let it fill up you will end up with a house full of flies. The top/lid on the bins are designed to allow females in through the lid assembly. There is an inner and outer lid. Once she's in my understanding is that she's going to lay and die.

Personally, I live in Kenosha, WI. I have roaches, crickets, and hornworms. Once the roaches are able to support all my babies the crickets are gone. There is ZERO chance I'm ever going to raise BSF's.

There is a guy(on the internet, somewhere) that is making his own out of various tubing and a five gallon bucket. I researched it, quite extensively. It has been a while, and my memory is not what it used to be. He was working on a second generation design a few months ago. Google BSF breeding, and look through the links. I live in Texas, so we have BSF 9 to 11 months out of the year. I thought of building a screened in area around a compost pile,(to keep the flies in) but no new flies could get in. I thought long and hard about it, then I discovered Dubias :D

Yeah I have dubias too.....I seen the website your talking about. Was mainly wanting them for up coming breeding to use as feeders to babies. Thought it'd be easier fishing out little dubia.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
