Question regarding Brumation (I read the article already)

Smurf my 5.5 year old beardie seems to have just gone into brumation for the first noticeable time. In the past Smurf has showed signs of it but it never lasted more than 3 weeks or so. This time Smurf's been refusing to eat for about 3 months and he's lazier than usual so it fits brumation...

    Vacation + Beardie = Question

I'm in a bit of a bind. I have a couple options. I will be out of state during spring break and taking beardie with isn't an option courtesy of the parents. I can have the local pet store board Smurf, or I can have a local guy I know from school look after him. The pet store is a little...

    Constipation

Smurf hasn't been having consistent bowel movements recently. Today he is pitch black, beard, and belly. He is fed crickets and collard every day. He has proper temps, UVB, etc. I think he isn't getting quite enough water. He may be constipated. Is there anything I can do now? Thanks.

    Hiccuping...?

Smurf is behaving normally for the most part. He 'hiccups' from time to time though. He puffs his beard, and looks like he is coughing. Then his beard goes back to normal. This will happen at random times, and only occasionally. When it does happen it usually lasts around 30 seconds to a...

    Heating problem...

I recently upgraded Smurf's tank and lighting. The problem is that I just can't keep the temperature up at night, where he sleeps. I have a 100 watt ceramic heat emitter, and a 100 watt black bulb, but it just isn't working. The heat emitter is a focused beam and does not radiate very well...

Abnormal stool: warning: kind of graphic

This is what I found in Smurf's tank about ten minutes ago. He has been lethargic lately too. This is not at all normal. Any ideas? Temps are fine. 80-90 with 95 basking. UVB needs to be replaced, will be as soon as new tank is finished. I have the Reptisun 10 sitting in the corner, it's...

    Log question...

I have a log in the tank for basking that Smurf is quickly outgrowing I think. How big would a good log be for an adult? Smurf's right now is probably 2" wide, and reasonably long. Below is a picture with him on it. It seems like it's going to be too small.

    Petsmart and their crap...

So the local place where I get my crickets ran out. I had to get them from Petsmart, and they were disgusting. It looked like there was something growing out of one of them, and it was twitching. Anyone want to venture a guess at why?

    Caught in the act...

I found Smurf eating prickly pear today. :blob8: As soon as I came into the room he ran across the tank and pretended like he was there the whole time. :blob8: I finally found a veggie he'll eat consistently. :blob8:

    Roaches...

http://www.thebugpros.com/order.html I found these. They are very cheap. It works out to about 2cents a roach. However I don't know about their nutritional value. Could someone point me in the right direction? Google isn't turning anything up. And has anyone ordered from them? How's their...

    Vibrating Dish...?

I saw a dish in Petsmart the other day that said it would entice reptiles to eat veggies from it, because it vibrated. In theory it sounds like a good idea, but would it actually work?

    Calcium and stools...

Smurf's been having very wet stools with a brownish color to the urate. (too much calcium?) It appears as though every thing is getting mixed up, because the poo is lighter too. He's also only been going every 3-4 days. When he does go it looks like he just lost half his body weight. He's on...

    Can you overhydrate?

Well the title says it all. I started giving Smurf a bath every day or so. I noticed his poo is a LOT more wet. Is this a problem? How do you know what is too much?

    Is it safe..?

To feed any kind of worm at 7 1/4"? I'm looking to vary Smurf's diet, but roaches are still not allowed in the house :angry5: :banghead: A local petstore stocks cups of supers. I haven't seen how big they are. Would those be okay, or too big?

    Planning to build vivarium...advice?

My dad is somewhat an expert on woodworking, but we don't have much reptile experience to go on. What kind of glue is safe for beardies? I was planning to build around a 40 gallon tank out of glass with wood trim. Will this be sufficient? What would be good floor space (l by w) measurements...

    Where do you get crickets?

I'm looking for the best price. I've looked at Fluker's and a few others online, but shipping costs more than the crickets. I live near Syracuse, NY. The local pet stores want 10 cents a cricket or more. My neighbor gets crickets delivered to his door for $10 a thousand, but its a small...

    Sleepy Dragon...:)

Smurf's got a new sleeping position. This is the third night Smurf has done this. :laughhard: Sorry I couldn't get a better picture. If the lights are on Smurf jumps down.

    No appettite...

Smurf, my new dragon is not eating. The first few days we've had him he's eaten as many crickets as we give him. Close to 24 a day. Smurf won't eat veggies, he ate a little romaine and tiny pieces of green beans. The day I got Smurf he was calm, but active and alert. Smurf appears to be...

    Meet Smurf...

Smurf's not blue, but I guess that's what happens when you let your little sister name your pet. Anyway Smurf and I are new to this site. In fact I'm new to the reptile world. Luckily my neighbor loves reptiles and had some good advice for me. He owns 27 ball pythons  as well...
