Meet Smurf...

Smurf's not blue, but I guess that's what happens when you let your little sister name your pet. :roll:
Anyway Smurf and I are new to this site. In fact I'm new to the reptile world. Luckily my neighbor loves reptiles and had some good advice for me. He owns 27 ball pythons :shock: as well as two beardies, and two Umastix (probably spelled wrong.)

Back to Smurf...
I've had my beardie for 4 days now, and I'm loving it.
When I heard they had great personality I never would have imagined how true it is!
Smurf is almost 8 inches long, including tail. Could someone give me an age estimate? The store I got him from took good care of all their animals. The enclosure Smurf was in was made up of one clutch of eggs that they had gotten 2 days before. Smurf looks perfectly healthy (Smurf was the biggest, almost pudgy), and is always eager to chase a cricket.

The tank Smurf is currently occupying is 12" by 24" by 20" high. We will be upgrading as soon as Smurf is ready.
The lighting consists of a 75 watt day bulb for heat and a 26 watt bulb for UVB. I also dust the crickets with calcium/d3 powder every other meal.

Smurf has not had a vet appointment, but has one for later today. Wish us luck!

I noticed in your other thread you were worried about Smurf not eating well. I must tell you that beardies go thru what we human's refer to as relocation stress. This usually doesn't set in until after a day or 2. Relocation stress takes place whenever you change anything in their environment. So it is going to take your new beardie anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks to completely acclimate...during which time your baby may not appear to be very active or may not eat well...this is normal. :wink:

As far as the supplements go you only need to dust one feeding per day 5 days per week...an at that size Smurf should be getting about 3+ feeding per day as many as he/she can eat in a 10 to 15 minute period. You also need to us a Multivitamin/Herptivite this you will dust one feeding per day 2 days per week.

What brand is your UVB? Stay far away from any compact, coil, ESU, or Reptiglo bulbs all these can cause health issues with your new beardie.
The best tube UVB would be a Reptisun 10.0.
