Heating problem...

I recently upgraded Smurf's tank and lighting. The problem is that I just can't keep the temperature up at night, where he sleeps. I have a 100 watt ceramic heat emitter, and a 100 watt black bulb, but it just isn't working. The heat emitter is a focused beam and does not radiate very well. If it isn't on top of him it makes no difference. The 100 watt black bulb isn't doing much either(it doesn't put off enough heat, but it radiates fairly well), and I'm afraid it will keep him up, because it's more purple than black.
And to top this all off he has decided to sleep underneath a log, which blocks what little heat gets to him.

I am sort of against UTHs, but they seem to be the only solution. If I regulate it with a rheostat would it be safe? Any advice?

I am having a problem with my heating in my new enclosures also and Embee recommended the Repti Temp and I ended up ordering two. You can plug in two devices, like a heat emitter and an UTH or a basking bulb in a dome lamp. You can not use this with your Mega rays and UVB flourescents.

I called Zoo Med today and confirmed I can use it with the dome light with Heat emitter, basking bulb, UTH, etc....

The reviews seem good and I bought some timers for each cage. I am having trouble because a 50wt basking isn't warm enough and the 75 is too hot. So I pm'ed Embee and asked what advice she had....

She also suggested I post here for ideas...not to hijack your thread...but here is my new setup....maybe we can help each other with ideas....

They sell 60 watt bulbs around here, or you could try a rheostat.
As for my problem it is solved. I have four domes on the tank at all times, but it works. :roll:
