Could Someone Help Diagnose Shenron's Death?

Shenron is already buried, so the necropsy can't be done. I realize absolute closure isn't possible, but yes, the death was fairly rapid and it's been on my mind since. Thank you for your reply.

Could Someone Help Diagnose Shenron's Death?

This isn't urgent, as Shenron sadly passed away at the beginning of this week three months short of his twelfth birthday. After pressing my father for more details surrounding the cause of his death, I got some more information that perhaps my father decided I wasn't ready to handle when he...

Not Quite Sure What to Say...

Shenron died yesterday evening around 7 or 8. He was eleven years old (would have been twelve in October). I just learned about thirty minutes ago. I...knew it was coming. He was limp when I held him on Saturday, he hadn't been eating or drinking, and had been sleeping almost non-stop. Dad...

    Animal Planet TONIGHT!!!

I'd love to watch, but the RA's have taken over the TV in the dorm lounge watching a movie before I could get to it. D:

Last 2" of tail turning darker - not a shed

Shenron has the same thing (at first I thought it was an unretained shed, but it's just a slight variation in his color). Is this new? If so, it could be an unretained shed, which can easily come off by scrubbing it gently with a toothbrush and baby oil. If not, it could just be some slight...

    Shenron is Now 9!!!

So I went home for fall break and celebrated Shenron's 9th birthday with him (though I can't say he was too keen on celebrating with me because he's bedding down for brumation, so he just got a nice bath while I changed the sand in his cage)! It is hard to believe that I have had him for that...

    Calcium deficiency

No, if it is definitely that cold out, do not bring your beardie outside. They will chill very quickly. I thought you lived somewhere a little warmer. I really don't bring my beardie out unless it is 78 F or higher. Anyways, if you have at least a 45 gal breeder, you can use a mercury vapor...

    Calcium deficiency

While it is good for them to have UVB, especially in this case, I think the Repti-glo is going to do more harm than good. Once he is strong enough, you can take him outside into real sunlight, which is definitely better than the synthetic UVB's we use in their cages.

urgent, please help. not sure what to do

The coil is probably what is causing that. For one thing, the ReptiGlo is a horrible UVB bulb, especially the coil. You need the ReptiSUN 10.0 TUBE. You can get it relatively cheap from petmountain.com. Your basking temps also need to be higher. Most babies like their basking spots in the...

    Drooping Eyes

Unfortunately no, not really. However, a fecal test can be done at a regular cat or dog vet since they are essentially looking for the same thing. Just don't let them treat him. Since your setup looks fine, that's what I'm assuming this is. We still need to get him to eat though. I know you...

    Drooping Eyes

Definitely get that fecal done. The stool does not have to be runny as a sign of parasites. All the things you are mentioning are usually a sign of a parasitic infection. Could you also tell me the temps on both the cool side and the basking area? What brand and type of UVB are you using...

    PHENIX, veg and crickets

You are wasting calcium with putting drops in his water. Beardies don't drink from standing water. If he is not eating the fruits and veggies that much, then putting liquid calicum on those isn't going to do much good either. You dust crickts like this: Put your crickets in a bag and then...

    Drooping Eyes

Have you gotten a fecal done on him lately? Lack of appetite can single parasites or high levels of coccida. Sometimes, it just takes a little while for them to warm up again to eating, I know Shenron is like that, though he is much older.

    PHENIX, veg and crickets

Yes, crickets no bigger than the space between his eyes are a good staple. Just be sure to dust them with calicum that has vitamin D3 in it. Gut load them if you can, otherwise it is like feeding your beardie nothing.

    Have you tried crickets, yet?

    Drooping Eyes

That is completely normal. Some beardies just have eyes like that.

    red urate?

The red tint in his urate is probably coming from feeding him carrots. Shenron has that same problem when I feed him cantalope. As a side note, you really should try weaning him off those mealworms, as they aren't particularly the best thing you can feed your beardie. You still need to...

my beardy has been diagnosed with kidney disease/failure.

Going to agree with Athenae, here. As an owner who has a dragon that is almost nine, I can vouch for the fact that when they get older, they will eat less feeders than when they are babies. Shenron eats only about 40 crickets a week, but practically gulps down greens. Shedding definietly does...

What made you decide to own a bearded dragon ???

Wow...how can I make this sound okay without getting mobbed by other people who have bearded dragons? I had bred (unintentionally) box turtles for a number of years since I was about five (I no longer have them now, but that is a different story unto itself), and I had always wanted a lizard...

    PHENIX, veg and crickets

Worms really aren't the best staple for a beardie as young as yours. If he is not interested in the crickets, it could be he is getting lazy, but I doubt that is the case at his age. Silkies are your best bet considering they do not have a hard chitin shell if you feel you must use a worm...
