My boy has had this dark patch for months. I’ve tried coconut oil and frequent baths. Nothing seems to induce shedding. I am very worried and I am hoping someone can answer my question. Thank you!

Hi there,

It doesn't seem to be constricting the base of his tail at all, that's good.
I saw your other thread, I didn't know it had been there for months.
Grace you tried gently scrubbing it with a tooth brush while hes in the bath?

Sometimes adults just get patches that take forever to shed. As long as they aren't causing any harm it's generally nothing to worry about. However being at the base of the tail, you just want ri watch out for constriction and making sure he still has full movement of his limbs.

Hi Brandon. Thank you for your response. He does have full movement. I will try the toothbrush trick and keep an eye on it.

This happens from time to time + is harmless. Just do as Brandon said and don't be worried, it's not harmful. :)

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
