Yellow Fungus?!? Please Help

I know that the yellow fungus is contagious to other beardies but I don't know about people. :dontknow: I've been handling Dino with all her fungus stuff without gloves, I don't have anything BUT I have not confirmed what TYPE of fungus it is. Not ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN 100% that it's yellow fungus, I just know it's a fungus of some kind. That is THE article to read on Yellow Fungus that RockHound posted.
Dino LOVES LOVES LOVES those Beardie Bites! She has some of them for breakfast everyday! :wink: As soon as she sees me coming back with the bowl, she's RUNNING for it, trying to bust through the glass! 98% of the time, she's so excited, she bites the side of the bowl trying to get 'em! I'm afraid she's gonna break a tooth!
Yoshi's tongue looks perfectly normal. Spike & Dino both had that little black tip to their tongue. Yoshi was probably just feeling nice & warm so he was gaping. :mrgreen: If you notice an open mouth with rapid/shallow breathing when he's not in the warm sun or not under his lights, then I would question it. If not, he's probably fine!
*edit* I just went back and looked at Yoshi's pics again, the nostril we can see in the pic looks blocked. Are they both blocked? If he's getting ready to shed, he could also be opening his mouth a little to breath cuz his nose is blocked up with shed! Maybe you can clear that out with a q-tip...just a thought for you. :wink:

RockHound, thanks for the article! I'm glad I won't have to scrub myself with disinfectant wipes immediately after he touches me by accident haha. I have a plastic container I can take him outside in so he should have zero contact with dirt =]

XtinaLotusMonster, I'm super excited that he'll be moving with me too! =D =D I won't be moving out for a while though T_T I'm going into my senior year of undergrad next fall (I was supposed to have graduated this May but I transferred schools so I lost a year ) And if all goes as planned, I'd have another three years of grad school. Then, I'd still have to find a job and save up for a place, ugh!! But yeah, it's going to be a while =( I hope your friend takes good care of your beardie(s)! I remember a time when my family and I went on vacation and a neighbor was watching our pets including me and my sister's hamsters. The water bottle was leaking for some reason and she just kept filling it up without checking to see why it was emptying so fast. When we came back, the hamster's bedding was SOAKED! =( Must have been so uncomfortable =(
Oo!! I was actually looking at those beardie bites the other day but the website was having some issues and wouldn't let me add any items to the shopping cart. I finally got to order them today though =D I think it's awesome that they sell some sample versions of their products. So helpful ^_^ I hope Yoshi likes them!
Edit - I forgot to answer your question about live feeders, sorry!!! I do offer him crickets every day but he doesn't seem interested in them =( I'm hoping it's just because of the fact that he's shedding and his appetite's decreased. A few weeks ago, I had fed him some wax worms to try and make him gain weight but he puked them up =( So I never went back to worms

SpikesAgirl, Yeahh, I'm not 100% if Yoshi has yellow fungus as well but I guess we should be careful regardless. I did loosen up a bit though and gave him a pat on the head with my bare finger =]
Hahaha omg Dino is SO CUTE!!! That's awesome she has a treat she really enjoys =) I just hope she doesn't hurt herself getting over excited and all. But ahhh I could just picture her doing that and it brings a huge smile to my face I hope Yoshi likes them as much as she does!

Okay so it's funny that you mentioned the nose shedding thing because I read your post after coming upstairs from giving him a bath and didn't notice anything. I had some dinner and went back down for his betadine bath/ cream application and look at how I found him!

I know the picture quality isn't that great but if you look at his right nostril, you can see the shed like coming out of the hole, haha! Thanks for the advice =) I did take a q-tip and helped him clear it; I hope he's breathing more comfortably now

Yoshi pooped twice today o_o am I feeding him too much? Today he had about 3.5 mL of carnivore care (1 mL in early afternoon and 2.5 mL around 6-7pm)

Also, I was going to start using a ceramic heat emitter at night but after it started heating up a bit, I noticed a strange smell coming from the light/fixture. I really wish I knew how to describe it but I can't. Does anyone know if it's normal for a ceramic heat emitter to smell like ANYthing at all?

Does the fixture have a plastic socket? Some new lights just smell funny when they first start burning, but make sure the fixture socket is ceramic. Otherwise, you could be smelling the heat melting the plastic, which isn't good!

Even if your fixture is ceramic, you need to check the wattage the fixture can handle. Some fixtures specify that they are not for CHEs. Find your fixture online if you remember what it is. The descriptions will usually say if they can be used for CHE's or not.

How is Yoshi doing? It sounds like he is doing better & his appetite has picked up a little bit.
That is great he will be moving with you! That is awesome. He is your baby now.
How is the ceramic heat emitter working out? If you have a small dome fixture with a plastic top it could get too hot, but not if it has adequate ventilation. Otherwise, you could get a dome light fixture with a ceramic top to it so it doesn't get as hot.

That's funny about his lil' nose! He's so freakin' cute n' little! :love5: Poopin' twice a day is okay as long as it's not runny. He probably took in a good amount of food and was just gettin it all out! What goes in must come out! :wink:
About the CHE, you also have to make sure that it's placed far enough away from the top edge of the tank or it can melt that plastic... :roll: I've melted my tank top MANY TIMES with the lights by sliding the cover over and having the lights end up sitting ontop of the plastic edge! :lol: Always somethin'! RockHound and Esther19, The socket is ceramic and it says on the box that it's for incandescent lights and ceramic heat emitters. It can handle up to 150 watts and the ceramic heat emitter I have is only 60 watts. So I don't know why there would be a problem =( I ended up not using it last night just in case it caught fire or something =/ I'll try turning it on again tonight and see if it still smells

Tracie, Yoshi is doing alright =) He still isn't eating any crickets but he's FINALLY licking critical/carnivore care off his nose! I'm so glad I won't have to force feed him anymore since we both don't like it =( I've probably just jinxed myself haha =( The dome fixture does have a ceramic top so I don't know why it's smelling funny =/ I was really excited to put it up for him last night too but it seemed kind of dangerous =/ This is the ceramic heat emitter/fixture that beardeddragon.co sent me so I don't think they would send me the wrong parts

Sue, thank you! =D I do wish he wasn't so little though =( He's almost a year old and he's still that small!! =( I hope I can still get him to grow to his full size. I couldn't tell if the second poo was runny or not because it went in his bath, haha it held it's shape in the water so hopefully that means it's okay. The first one wasn't runny. Aww, I'm sorry you melted your tank top =( I hope it wasn't ruined completely! I don't think that's the case in my situation; the smell was coming from the bulb/fixture itself =(

My two Powersun lights have a funny smell to them as well, kinda strange I know. It never smelled like it was burning or anything to me, so I've just left it alone. Can you describe the smell coming from the CHE? Maybe you could email Cheryl and ask her about it. The CHE & fixture you have sound like they should work fine together to me. Give little Yoshi a pat on the head for me!

You might try turning on the CHE today while you were awake to monitor it.

The CHE will give off a funny smell when you first turn it on, but that's just because it is new and it should go away within a couple hours of operation. Turn it on tonight ahead of time and see if it still has the smell, it should not have it this time.

Your ceramic heat emitter will be fine, it can just have a strange smell at first while it is breaking in.
How is Yoshi doing today, still liking the critical care I hope?
You are doing great & I know Yoshi has to be feeling better now. Keep us posted on him.

It helped out tremendously; I use all the items every day or every other day depending on what it is! Thank you!! I know this sounds repetitive but I seriously can't thank you enough!

Tracie, Yoshi wasn't as enthusiastic about the critical care as he was yesterday but I still managed to get 2.5 mL into him (the last 0.5 mL was forced though =/) I'm concerned that, because he isn't finishing his food, and I mix calci-blast into the mixture, he isn't getting as much as he needs so I might have to start feeding that separately. I know he's gonna love that... haha =(

Today I've spent around 6 hours downstairs with Yoshi (minus dinner time and a few minutes upstairs to charge my phone) and his behavior has been worrying me. He kept one or both eyes closed pretty much the whole time I've been staring at him. Actually this might have been going on since yesterday but I didn't think much of it until it carried over to today. There was a piece of shed skin loose around one eye so I lightly brushed that off thinking maybe that's what was bothering him but he is still doing it. He isn't laying down but sitting? I guess you can call it that. Where he's only supporting himself up with his arms.

(Also, Is that considered black bearding? The lower portion of his beard seems dark.. the dark spots on his lips, however, are unfortunately from being force fed so much )

If I move him to the cooler side, he will get up and climb back onto his basking spot. When I took him out of the tank though, he just laid on whatever I put him on (my hand, the floor) and wouldn't move until I put him back and then he would go back to his spot. Is this something I should be worried about or is it a normal part of the shedding process? I am so worried about him =( Sigh, I didn't realize how rollercoaster-like this treatment would be

Dino's shedding too, she spent all day under her ramp yesterday lookin all pathetic. She came out to eat and went right back under it. If he keeps it up for more than a couple days then maybe, I would question it. Is he still off the sporonox?
They will darken up their beards a little if they feel crappy sometimes. He's not "black bearding" though. Dino doesn't like my son when he has his hat on and she darkens her beard at him. You'll know when he's doing that! She just recently "learned" how I think! It's pretty funny. She'll get it dark (not BLACK like some pictures I've seen) almost down to her chest! Then of course she flairs it out at him too! She thinks she's tough! 8) I just go right over and pick her up and she calms down.

Aww =( I hope Dino isn't feeling too uncomfortable.. How long does a shedding session usually last? Yoshi is still off sporonox. It took him about a week to get his appetite back, ate well for two days, and then went into shedding so now he doesn't eat by himself anymore =( I just hope he is well enough to eat by himself for at least a week before he goes back on sporonox. I'm not sure when that'll be though =/ Not looking forward to it at all..
Dino is such a cutie, I can't stand it!!! Haha wow what a funny personality =) =) I'd say she's very tough hehe. How's she doing, by the way?? Have her spots started to go away or are they the same?
