Hello Dawn,

How is Xena?
Oh a beardie diaper, poor thing! At least she was able to get out though, did she try to wiggle out of it? :laughing6: At least she did get some exercise, maybe that will help. Do you let her swim when she is in her bath? That might help with muscular contractions.
Maybe she will end up laying them, so she wont have to get surgery!

What kind of blankets do you make?

If I remember correctly, she made several blankets for Barbara I just saw the one for Zak-n-Wheezie that says "I believe in miracles" on it. Dawn, I'd help if I could but I can't afford to by anything extra right now, too many repairs making other bills (large and small) late.

She has been fairly calm today, which is a nice change. Squash did the trick to get her to eat the CC -- and she did want a couple supers, she left CC lip prints on the worm container  We only gave her a couple so her digestive tract isn't full of stuff that's hard to poo out. We'll keep you posted on what the doc says -- we're supposed to touch base tomorrow.

BTW, Tracie -- is it normal for dragons to look really bummed out (or a little high) after giving the Fortaz or Metacam? She looked a little stoned after the meds yesterday.

Xena found a way to relieve the pressure on her bum -- I rolled a couple extra blankies up, just to give her different elevations... she uses them to put counter pressure on her tummy. Smart. But she moved one blankie so it lined up with the other one, and she can lay her tail on the 2nd blankie, which alleviates the pressure from tail weight. Too funny, they are smart little boogers.

Here you go, Gina! Beardie Diaper for just such emergencies:

OMG! :laughhard:
Dawn I have now seen it all. :laughhard:
Beardie diapers! :headbang: :laughing6:

BTW...being that Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic and fever reducer effects...I'd say yes, she could appear stoned.

Dawn, I am so sorry to hear poor Xena is having trouble with her eggs. :D She has been through so much lately. What a little trooper she is.
I'm glad to hear she ate a little something for you. That's wonderful!
Please let us know how she is doing today and what the vet says.
You, Xena and your family are in my thoughts.
((hugs))

Tracie... Dawn makes the most beautifully handcrafted blankies for beardies, other pets and humans as well. I have one for Rex that I purchased from her over a year ago and Rex sleeps with it every night. She also made one for my cat(Malibu) who has since passed away and was buried with her blankie. Dawn's blankies are very well made and a great price as well. Here is Rex in her blankie.

P.S. Dawn, if you do start making blankies again, my Bliggy could use one. Let me know when you start your For Sale thread up again.

That blanket is great! I'd be interested in getting one for Stella and one or 2 for other beardie people I know (Christmas is coming! LOL)

1.) Meloxicam is a NSAID, similar to Ibuprofen (but different, obviously). It really shouldn't make her dopey or anything...

2.) Have you considered CareCredit? You may want to ask your veterinarian if they accept it. If so, you could apply for it by going to www.carecredit.com

Good luck with her!!

Hello Dawn,

How is Xena doing? I hope that she is feeling better!
I don't think that she would feel too out of it from the Metacam/Meloxicam, but maybe the Fortaz since that is the antibiotic. Perhaps she is dehydrated from the medications. Is she eating anything right now? Pain medications or NSAIDS affect people in different ways, so you never know, it could affect reptiles in different manners also. She could be sensitive to that particular substance more than another dragon is.
She looks so cute. They are very smart, so she must know how to relieve pain better than we do!

Keep us posted on her.

Dawn, when Lilly "appeared" gravid, she did all sorts of crazy things to keep pressure off her belly. I would come home and find that she had put her back legs in her food bowl and her front legs on her basking rock so her belly would hang in between. She would also stand up on her basking rock and hold onto her magnatural. I'm glad the squash worked for you!

Tracie I must agree with Dawn thing #1...that thing #2 makes some awesome blankies. All my beardies have several personalized blankies that were made by Dawn and her family. I have had my blankies for well over a year now and they all come out of the wash still looking brand new. :D And for Zak-n-Wheezie that says something as they go through alot of blankies.

She's still got a very swollen bum, and she's only trying to push occassionally. Partly due to meds, the anti-inflammatory has helped a lot. She is still passing lots and lots of urates, no eggs. We have gotten two poo's, both were like a flattened log... I am assuming because the eggs being low, they got squished on the way out.

With her eggs not calcifying properly, she may not be able to pass them. Our vet was out sick today, so we're hoping for a call in the morning.

She is being a good girl about eating the CC -- and also flinging it EveryWHERE! And she's being a good sport about the diaper... she knows it allows her to be free, which she cherishes that "out" time.

So we're still in a holding pattern today, I am hoping she may resorb these, and not have to have surgery yet. But with so many of them dropping already, can they be resorbed? I am SO glad we only have one girl right now! We all love her so much, but this is stressful.

I posted a new blankies thread. So now you all can see one of my other "passions".

Just an update: We're having a hard night with Xena, she is pushing hard again, we've talked to her vet, and because there isn't any other change with the calcification (and she's not resorbing them yet) there is not much we can do at this point. Unless we do the surgery now. We asked if he'd take payments, their practice doesn't do that. We tried the carecredit option, but since our identity theft attack last summer (yes its been 13 months already) our credit is still marred by the theft. So we're screwed at the moment.

I have already got the coffee brewing, it's going to be a long night. She is now getting tiny dabs of pinkish blood when she pushes (that she leaves on the towel). No prolapse, but I'm scared to death to get thru tonight. We are putting vaseline around her vent, her skin is sooooo dry right around the vent. Poor baby tries to push because the pressure of the eggs is uncomfortable, then her vent has to hurt when she pushes because of the dry skin. We had one extra dose of the Metacam, we've given her that, and are waiting for it to kick in. Sugarwater bath didn't help tonight.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
