Hi Everybody. OK, so I don't think his tank is getting hot enough now. He's still turning black to get heat and, at the top of his basking log, it reads only 100. I think he's ready to move up on the heat index. I have the MVL and a 75 watt black bulb on there. I have the ceramic heat bulb too but there's hardly room for that and the MVL at the same time. Should I try an ordinary house bulb? Also, the bulbs (even with the 2 right now-the MVL & black light) are in 2 different lamps and not both aimed at his basking log. How would I try and get them both positioned to the log? I know the black light has a little UVL in it and that's making me thing I should also try a regular light bulb but what wattage and how can I try to get them in the same postion? SHould I try to buy a lamp stand?
Thanks! BTW-my baby, the last two days, has been stretching his head WAY up in the morning when he hears me, like he's waiting for me LOL HE IS SOOO CUTE AND SWEET! :D

Hi Randi,

Glad to hear Blazer is lifting his head up high for you :blob5:

To get your temps up higher for basking you will have to raise the basking spot. Before you do that though, try putting in an ordinary bright white household light in place of the black one. Try the same watt you are using(75w)...the white light will throw off more heat then the black light. You shouldn't have to have them both directed at the basking spot. The heat from the white household bulb will raise the temps throughout the viv...which in turn will raise your basking temps. If when you do change to the white bulb and the basking temp does not go up....then you will want to raise the basking spot.
Were you able to get the digital thermometer at Walmart? I assume this is how you are getting your temps.

Hope that wasn't too confusing

Thanksks, Dawn. And nope, not too confusing you explained it well :)
I tried 3 different wallmarts in EVERY section possible and could not find the accurite.
I ended up getting a probe thermometer from Petsmart.

I am discouraged right now though.. :(
I just weighed him. He hasn't gained any weight yet?? He loks like he has though :(

OK. There's gotta be a problem with the scale. There's NO WAY he hasn't gained. Plus, just now I decided to put him in with the crickets and, no coaxing needed, he ate 4!! He would of eaten more if I would of let him :D Hooray!! :blob5: :blob5: :blob8: :blob8:

Also, I've only been giving him a tiny bit of chicken baby food with his squash/Reta-Aid for the last two days. Now that he ate the crikets, should I NOT give him chicken baby food tonight?
Thanks!!

first off, I know nothing..... :) sorry! But I did go the vet in my city when I was dealing with the whole Jack situation and the vet there said she had a cat food cocktail she recommends for beardies that have MBD and/or underweight. I could call her and ask what the recipe was..... she said she doesn't like ppl to use the recipe for very long as its VERY high in fat and protein, but if Blazer needs alittle fattening up, maybe it might work?? The vet clinic comes VERY highly recommended in the reptile vet community..... so I'm sure its an ok to feed it to him, if you want.... no pressure!

Let me know if you want the recipe..... good luck with Blazer, beardies are fun once you get the kinks in the system worked out huh??

And thanks, Angie. I would apprecate it. Also, is the vet a reptile vet too and very farmiliar with BD's? If you could post the recipe that would be great and then one of the moniters can let mer know what they think about!

The only cat food I can think of is the A&D recipe,is this what you are referring to?The only other thing I can think of is one of the Oxbow formulas,do either of these sound familiar?

Hello Randi,

Sorry I missed your call, I had the ringer off!
You can do 2 small protein feedings daily, that is fine. Just be sure to give plenty of the green slurry & fluids for him. Are the pads on top of his head filling out anymore?
How is his demeanor now, is he still looking up at you?
That is great he is doing much better. Keep up the great work!
I normally recommend the Critical care before anything, because it is so well balanced.

Hello Randi,

Oh, it really does the heart good to hear that Blazer is responding so well to all your caring efforts and TLC. :love5:

I've been following the thread all week. After last week's deep sadness in losing Pilot, it's so good to see that Blazer is perking up, and eating with enthusiasm. He is a fighter for sure, and you are a most caring and devoted beardie slave of the highest caliber. :)

The best and many good thoughts and hopes for Blazer's continued upward rise. :D

The vet i took Jack to was a reptile specialist.... (only the best for my babies, it's kinda my motto, I take my pets VERY seriously, and Gibson is just as spoiled as the dogs and the cat) and the vet has a host of reptile that she sees on a regular basis, also the vet clinic came very highly recommeded in both domstic and exotic pets! I did a bunch of research before I took Jack there..... :) i'll call her ASAP for the catfood recipe!

OK, I have a dilemma. I just got home and it's really late. I', a Night owlk so not for me though. ANyways, Blazer only ate one meal...but boy did the little guy do good!!!! I wouls like to take him out adn feed and t=bath him. He's is still WIDE AWAKE. I feel like he's wondering why I havewn't fed him yet :(

So, is it bettert I just leave him alone for now so he can rest and gaine his strength back or should I get his little butt outta there anhd feed him a green slurry?? I know I'll have to stay up for 2 hours after but I'm ok with that. Thank you sooo much!!

I'm going to post a few pictures of him eating the PW's. He loves them :) I got him to take one bite/slurp of the green slurry. Then I put it back into the bowl and fed it to him like that and he did good, then!!!. I put some with some phoenix worms on the greens and since they "burrow" he definetly ater more greens that way too> He's so cute!!! I love him!!

I would try to keep His routine as normal as possible. Day cycle, night cycle. If you start feeding and bathing at night as He gets better it May throw off his schedule. I wouldnt stress if He only eats 1 time a day sometimes. He is eating more in a day than he has in some time. He is relearning what its like to eat. Remember its a marathon not a sprint.

Hi everyone. I'm postin pics of Blazer. He is eating GREAT! He actually tried to eat the syringe lol. I did the slurry a bit different and left some of it in pieces, not blended all the way to liquid. Then, after his greens we went to the PW. He would of kept eating and eating if I let him. I know I can't let him eat 50 at a time but I'm wondering if I gave him enough or too much. I didn't count but he may have had about 15 or so. I have a couple of concerns tho. I'm not so convinced that parts of his head are white due to shedding. I hope so. If anyone can tell by the pics, please let me know. Any other comments will be Very appreciated!! I just want him to be healthy!! (I know you're right , Tom...thanks for the "relax" comments!)
And Tracie, I know you asked about if his head is filling out more. I don't think it is yet :(

Randi, *hugs!* I can't believe how far Blazer has come in such a short time. Now that he's eating and has like the most devoted loving slave ever, he's perking up! The white on the head def looks like getting ready to shed for me but Blazer has so many fans I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong... Hermes has the same white spots right now...

Go Blazer!!! :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: Randi, thanks for taking time to post pics, and for keeping us updated, you're doing a super job! Tell your family so too OK?

*More Hugs* and *Beardie Cuddles*

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
