Hi all,
My baby beardie has some weird discoloration on his head and tail after a shed. This seems to match exactly what is happening to daduc in this post http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=108940

I have been bathing him every day and I brushed his tail yesterday with a soft children toothbrush yesterday. It didn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas? I am worried. :(

Here is a pic of my beardie.

Sometimes after a shed they will come out a different colour. I doubt there's anything to worry about, but maybe someone else has some insight.

Spark had a spot like the one in the other thread right between his eyes. It was shed that hadn't come off at the same time as the rest of his head. It finally fell off about a week after.

That said, I do know unshed skin can cause issues around their toes and feet. I would assume it could cause issues elsewhere. Hopefully, a moderator or someone with a little more experience will be able to help you.

Any ideas what this could be? Specially on the head? Doesn't look right. Could he still be shedding? It's been a week since he started. :(

Thanks to those who replied.

Ok, everyone is here to learn and im sure you had to ask the question 'what is this' at some point. And please dont write in caps lock, communicating is difficult enough over the net as puntuation and tone is lost, but it does look like your yelling.

The spot in the middle may be a third eye, is that what you were talking about, or the overall colour of the head and tail? They do look like different colours. How old is he/she and have they shed their back/belly yet??

The reason we're all on this website is to learn how best to care for our beardies. Not everyone can know everything and the most experienced of us can be surprised or panicked about a new behaviour or a change in appearance in our beardies. Thats what the forums are for. You've added a comment of no help whatsoever, thats both rude and patronising.
To Herpielove, he looks fine. They can shed in patches which can take quite awhile. I was on here just after Christmas freaking out because my Beardie was having an EPIC shed that lasted a grand total of five weeks! They'll go through several subtle colour changes at that age too!

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make but the point I was trying to make is that this community website is an extremely valuable resource. Anyone who needs help is responded to as best as possible. Telling someone that they 'should know their info' isn't helpful or constructive. Have you requested help on the forums? Did anyone respond to you in that manner?

i think it is ["constructive"], even if the tone didn't seem nice. there's a difference between the ER [where specific immediate help may be necessary to save a dragon's life] and other threads where it's more appropriate to suggest that people should do some research on their own rather than simply believing what someone else tells them -- of course, it would have been much more helpful to suggest a good [print or online] source, or to point out what the search word would be for locating a previous reply on this forum to the same question.

the saints who are the mainstays of forums have to answer the same questions over and over again -- is there anything wrong with politely suggesting that we don't want to "burn them out" ?

It was the post about the 16 year old dragon that I was referring to as not being constructive to the OP, not the previous one about the parietal eye. I do understand what you're saying regarding information being repeated, and I absolutely agree with you on people researching their pets but the way this was pointed out to the OP wasn't exactly pleasant.

Please stay on topic. Anything other than what the OP inquired about should be taken offline (in a PM) or start another thread. In addition, there's no tolerance for telling others that they should know their information -- if they knew they wouldn't be asking.

   OMG well, I see there was a lot of action while I was not looking!

Some clarification. Someone needs to look closely at the picture and the description. I am, and have been very well aware of the third eye. But thanks for pointing that out Stan. It's good too assume someone might need extra info. And Athenae, wouldn't that way of thinking completely bring down entire professions and institutions, like medicine for example?

Please look at the picture closely and notice how his head looks yellowish compared to the rest of his body which looks brown/tan. And also the tail looks very dull compared to the mid-section. THAT is my question. Why the different tonalities. It's beyond me how someone could possibly link that to the third eye. C'mon is that so hard to see? Oh well... In fact, it is because I have been reading and studying so MUCH that I have developed a kind of new parent paranoia. So many illustrations of beardies with skin problems and fungus and such, whats to say mine didn't catch something I'm still not able to recognize by myself? And no, I did not consider this to be an ER question. My beardie is eating well, poo's quite a bit, and follows me with his eyes everywhere I go. :blob5: If that wasn't the case, then I would have posted in ER.

Information and theory is worth nothing without experience. I might know everything there is to know about birdies and still not be able to raise one. The people in this forum represent year after year after year of EXPERIENCE. That is what we come here after. That is what makes a happy beardie.

Wow, worked up a sweat there
Thanks so much for those who stuck out for me and tried to help. I will take it as a "normal-after-shedding-blunder" for now and call it a night. :D

I know that Spark's head can sometimes be a different color than the rest of his body and that with him growing he is constantly in shed. His head changes from a little yellow to a dark brown depending on his mood, the background he is set against, and what part of his body is shedding. I think the head being a different shade from the rest of his body is/can be normal. I know that Spark's head has been a completely different color than his body.

Is it possible that the tail is ready to shed again and that's why its a bit foggy looking? It looks similar to what Spark has gone/is going through.

That said, I have no experience with fungus of any kind other than athletics foot, which doesn't apply here.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
