Tile Floor

If I wanted to put tile on the bottom of my enclosure, what kind of grout and sealant can I use that won't be toxic to a beardie?

i dont use a sealent i just place the tile closely together..... it works just as good if not better.... but i wouldnt use grout ive heard it just makes the viv much much heavier

We just put papertowels under the tile incase anything falls between the cracks. I wouldnt used grout because there are times where you want to take the tile out and bleach clean them really good. Also we have the sunfire enclosure and its heavy without the tile.

I just tiled mine today. I got 20 6x6 slate tiles, they look great! I got some cut right at Lowe's where I bought them so they fit right in. This way, when one gets pooed on you can switch it out for a clean one, plus it won't add all that weight because you can take them out when you need to move the viv.

I really like your enclosure. I see you have the Magnaturals. Why aren't they higher off the ground? I am getting one soon and I was going to put mine higher. Is there a reason it is so close to the ground?

i was thinking about possobly adding a tile floor inmy viv, but my lizards like to burrow, and i have quite a few heavy things in the viv anyway, i recently added a new heat bulb as i found out mine was too small for the size of the viv, and i also added a heat house. basically it is a little cave with a heat source in the lid and the lizards the like to lye on it. cute. Duma seems to be getting on better with Hermosa than Ziva. who unfortunately died in september

That seems like a good idea to just keep the tile in there without grout. My bf and I are trying to figure out exactly what we need to build this enclosure so I'm sort of stressing out. After we do the beardie enclosure we have to work on another for the tegu so I need to get this down to a science.

i went out last night and bought a huge slab, my dad dropped it a few times to break it up then we put it in the viv and filled in the gaps with wood chips, (i will upload the photo on my photoshop account soon.) and then i filled about a quater of the viv with sand.

personally if i were to build a viv, i would build the frame and put in the vents etc. then if you were going to tile it i would leave about a quarter of the tank for sand or a substrate which they can sleep and burrow in, because it is comfortable and as i found out they like to dig.
