What is the best base material for a DIY hide?

First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, mods!

I want to make Leo a new basking platform but I’m not sure where to begin, I don’t want it to be wooden… what should I use as a base? And then what should I use as a sealant afterwards? Do I apply the sealant before or after painting it? Thanks!

You know, we have a DIY section..

Are you trying to make one? Or are you trying to just find something like a log or rock out in nature? I'm assuming based on your title that you're wanting to make a DIY hide. If so, the common practice is foam insulation that you carve into the shape you want and then grout over it, paint it (optional), and seal it.

Thanks, I actually found a pretty good tutorial that I plan on using. It follows pretty similar (if not the same) steps as you’ve mentioned, I’m heading out tomorrow to get the supplies.

Or in my case you can make a FANTASTIC mess lmao i got that stupid foam all over EVERYTHING. And if they ever made anything more sticky, darned if i know what it is
