The Odd Couple Of Sandhill- Oscar and Mia

Just a short update on my boys, as I can't sit with my leg down for very long.

Putzy seems to be spending most of his day, dozing. Except for when we go out for some sun, which is when he perks up and tries to escape. I need to order him a new light as his present one is about 6 months old now. Hopefully that will help wake him up and get his appetite going again.

Oscar, on the other hand, is, well, a bottomless pit. He will eat any thing, anywhere, anytime. This includes my fingers, my hair, my feet etc. If it moves, he tries to nom it. As soon as I have the $200+ for his vet visit, it's fun time. (loves going for rides) But his poops are getting firmer and less stinky, so I think it was mainly due to his cricket diet and suddenly getting as much food (bugs and salad) as his not so little tummy could hold.

I'll be posting new pics as soon as I get this dinosaur 'puter to upload the software for my camera. Night all, from me and my boys!

I hope you are feeling better quickly, and I'm looking forward to the pics of the "Odd Couple." It's good that Oscar is eating so well, and the runny poops were probably just a bit of relocation stress, since they are settling down as he settles in. :laughing6: :love5: :love5:

Beautiful day out today, so when I went out to poor Boo Boo Bunny(all alone and lonely) I took Putzy out as well. Boo Boo hopped around the lawn, picking and choosing the best greens and dandelion flowers, while Putzy pancaked on the cement by the firepit and just soaked up the sun. We were out for almost an hour. Putzy was practically sociable, at least until he realized we were heading back inside.

Oscar, now what can I say about my little Osscaboo?! He was impatiently waiting for his salad this morning, when he spotted my pale green slipper-socks tucked under the coffee table. Did a 5 sec dash for them, took a big bite then gave me that tilt-headed sideways look. It clearly meant "What the heck is this? Are you trying to poison me?" He then dashed back, missed the door, and bumped his nose on the glass, then glass danced his way over to the right spot. Goodbye salad!

Oscar is obviously much younger than 2 year old Putzy. He rarely black beards, barely bobs and will sometimes give me a wave. He eats constantly, moves like greased lightning, then collapses for a quick nap. 15 minutes later, he's back at the glass, begging either for food, out time or "gotta go NOW, Mummy!" Toss him in the bath, he'll swim for a minute, make poop soup, squirm and complain til the bath is cleaned and refilled, then swim for another 10 minutes before zonking out. What a character!

In the interests of economy, I bought superworms for both Putzy and Oscar. Bad move!! Usually I get Oscar butters, but it gets pretty expensive feeding the walking stomach. Tuesday, he gobbled them up and asked for more. Problem started yesterday morning, didn't want to come out of his bedroom (he sleeps in a cave), didn't touch his breakfast and looked miserable. Finally coaxed him out, and :puke: :puke: :puke: . Let me tell you, undigested supers mixed with partially digested squash = me gagging!! Gave him a bath, cuddled for awhile but he still hasn't eaten since his barf fest Wednesday morning. Called the vet, asked about prices and as soon as I get my vacation pay next week, it's off to town we go. I'll be taking only Oscar but will open a file on Putzy at the same time. Said they do a multiple pet discount on file openings. First pet is $25, 2nd etc is $15. A mere ten bucks, but it helps.

Putzy is still pretty dopey, except outside so instead of a vet visit, I'll be getting him a new light. I'll take him next month for his check up. Oh and my husband says " You really are their slave! You're spending your book money on them!" To put that in context, I am a certified bookworm and have been known to hoard small change, roll it and take it to our local bookstore. Probably the only person to pay for books with pennies! Like Oscar and his food, I will read anything (including cereal boxes, as books were forbidden at the table)

Gotta go, I need to run the bath for the boys.

I have had that same experience, after a super pigout, and now limit everybody's super intake. I think it is the fat content, and compare it to somebody filling up on corndogs. One, maybe two, okay. Ten? :puke: Superworms, a random treat, not daily, at this point, I top out for all of my babies at ten. Any more and I'm risking another :puke: fest. Fib says it isn't fair, he's never puked HIS worms, but I still hold him to the limit as well. :laughing6: :love5:

I hope Oscar and Putzy are both feeling better! :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5:

Stupid Earl!!! Not satisfied with wrecking the East Coast, he's sent crappy, cold and damp weather to my little part of the world! Poor Putzy hasn't been able to go out for the past 2 days and is currently sulking in his house. We had almost 2 weeks of gorgeous warm and sunny days, and Mr. Grump has been loving it. It's amazing just how tolerant of human contact he becomes, after an hour outdoor basking. He's so upset this morning, over the lack of sunshine, he actually ignored his breakfast worms. Don't worry through, they're gone now.

However, it is my sad duty to inform everyone that Oscar exploded sometime last night. When he went to bed, he showed signs of beginning a shed (grey patches, crispy sounds when he moved, etc.) Woke up this morning and his entire house was covered in bits and pieces of dead skin. He had boots on 3 of his feet and a very thick cap stuck to his head. Gave him a bath and sloughed off his boots but the cap, I think, needs to be massaged with some oil to soften it. He's presently standing in front of his empty salad dish, demanding a second helping. So, I'm off to the fridge.

Oh, the trails and tribulations of being a slave!!! I decided to clean out Oscar's house while he was having his swim. In order to clean out the dead skin and old, dried up salad, I had to get down onto the floor. Tod kept an eye on him while he was shaving. It took me about 5 minutes. It then took me nearly 20 minutes before I could get up off the floor. :banghead: Stupid leg just wouldn't work and support my weight. At least Oscar is looking bee-u-ti-ful! Just has the bottom half of his tail and the thick patch of retained shed on his snout. 8) So he should be having his photoshoot for the calendar in a couple of days.

:protest: Putzy has asserted his dominance over the household this morning. After his bath, and during his roaming time, he spotted Oscar :angry5: (dingleberry me forgot to cover the front of Oscar's house) so of course he charged, beard at full pouf and black to his belly. They glass danced and bobbed at each other until I put the cover in place. Putzy decided to then charge me, :whip: stand on my foot and bob me instead. Satisfied that we now knew who was in charge, he preceded to his favorite powerbar and :sleepy2: crashed. I guess being the head honcho is a tiring job. :laughhard:

I understand about the problem getting up off the floor, I have knee problems and I would have taken at least that long getting up off the floor.

Putzy sounds like our Lonzo, he doesn't need any reason to charge & bob & blackbeard. He bobs us constantly, he's so funny.

Your boys sound like they keep you busy. I'm sorry to hear about your leg, hope it's better soon.

I know what you mean about supers, our bunch have had that happen, too, so we limit their worms. They don't like it, but too bad, I say, better you eat more salad!

Hope to hear more about your "odd couple". Tell Putzy the sun will come out again, just for him!

Did some checking on prices for lights, not good. I mean, excuse me, but $70 for a 24" tube?? The Exo Terra brand lights are only $30-40, but except for basking bulbs, most Zoo Med bulbs have to be ordered. No thanks! So the husband and I drove the 2 hours to Montreal, to check out what they had available. Out of the 5 pet stores we went to, only 2 carried Zoo Med but the prices were worth the drive! Even paying $20 in gas, it was still a deal. One of the stores also had Goliath worms (horn worms to the rest of the world) so I bought 2 as a treat for the boys.

Unfortunately, the light is going unappreciated by Putzy. He is currently sprawled out with his head tucked under his cactus. He's awake (barely) for an hour in the morning and then it's lights out for the rest of the day. He did eat his worm( :puke: ) but ignored his salad and supers. Other than a drink, he's had nothing since Saturday morning.

Oscar, on the other hand, I don't think he even tasted his worm! I gave him his salad, his butters and showed him the horn worm. It passed his Nommable test. It a) was a nice green color, b) wriggled, and c) fit in his mouth. Or it would have , if he hadn't tried to eat my finger with it. My middle finger has a pretty blood blister on the pad from his little teeth.

Oops, gotta go, the tiny terrorist is about to set off a stink bomb if he isn't given his bath NOW!!!

Someone forgot to put the beardie salad back in the fridge, before leaving for work (first day back since Aug. 10th) Monday night. And then forgot to stop at the store for new greens! So, after working 8 hours on my gimpy leg and foot, I had to hobble around the back lawn, picking dandelion leaves and praying the boys would like them. Just my luck!! 2 hours later I was out there again, in the rain, because Mr. Hollow-Tail snarfed them back like they were chocolate, licked his lips and asked for more. I swear that boy is expanding right in front of me!

Putzy still seems to be trying to brumate. I plan on putting a box and blankie in with him, hopefully, next week. If he is determined to sleep, I need to take him in to the vet first. Last year, he just dozed alot but kept eating the entire time. it wasn't much, a bite or two a day, a drink every other day, when he suffered his baths. But this year, he seems pretty set on crawling into a dark hole and ignoring the world.

Well, my washer has stopped and it's time to back to my housework.

Life continues to give me the finger. I finally got my camera to upload new pictures of the boys onto the computer, only to have photobucket refuse to work. Darn site kept choking and freezing on the pics. Then, I checked my emails from "beardie", concerning my calendar pics, and I Realized that i had sent the wrong one of Oscar!!! It was supposed to be the one next to it. And of course it's now too late to change it for the right picture.

Still haven't made an appointment for the vet visit. When the husband found out which vet office we would have to go to, he pitched a fit. These are the same bunch who refused to touch our baby rabbit with a broken leg, because we couldn't pay the full amount for the x-rays. We had been going to these people twice a year, for almost seven years, for Turtle's shots and simple wellness checks. And when we turned up with an emergency, we were treated like welfare bums trying to gyp them! That was the last time we ever went there for any reason. Now I find out that out of the 6 vet offices in our area, this is the only one that will see "exotic" pets. Not sure what I'm going to do now.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
