The Life of Saphira! New viv pics!

I decided to make a topic about Saphira and her life as she grows up, and a place to put all the pictures i take!


First things first, i finally finished her permanent Viv! Was given somemoney for my birthday so i went shopping for some stuff to fill up the space.


Her viv is a 4'x2'x2', made out of melamine (got the plans from crossfiredragons).

Enough talk tho, heres the pics!

Heres the entire viv:

It has sliding glass doors, i personally hated trying to reach down into something.

On the left side i have a thermometer that measures her basking temp:

And on the right is the thermometer for the cool side:

On the hot side of the tank i have a little stick that leads to a stone structure thingy, which leads to her hammock, and her log is under that and has a blanket for her to sleep on:

In the middle i made a little rock wall that has a small cave in the center, got those from my garden and yes they were sterilized and baked in the oven, and then her veggie dish and water dish are in the middle as well:

Then on her coolside i have another little cave with some fake leaves around it, she seems to like to climb on the leaves lol, also i put a dragon statue in the other corner, i thought it looked cool lol.

All i can say is Wow, saphira JUST finished shedding her legs a couple days ago, and her head has been the light grey for a couple days as well. Im waiting for that to explode one of these days. BUT before she even finished shedding her head, her body is starting to go into shed again! It cant be more than a week or so since she finished shedding her body, its basically the first thing that goes. Its basically a love hate relationship with her shedding, i hate it because her colors get all covered up with the dead skin, but i love it because they are always much brighter when shes done! But come on, if shes gonna shed every week how can i enjoy the colors!!!!!! Cant she take a break lol. Anyways thats the update, i have to go clean out the cricket bin, its stinkin up a storm, then i will upload some pics!!

Ok as i promised, here are some pictures!!!

The past 2 days i was actually up before saphira, so i was able to get some waking up pictures lol.


I rolled over in bed and looked around the corner of the viv to see if saphira was awake, i couldnt see her so i called out her name and up popped her head! She decided to cuddle up to the pappa dragon (statue lol).

I just thought this was so cute, she just has a face that says "GOOD MORNING!"

And then i cought her yawning lol, was a little slow with the camera but i got it with her cute little tounge sticking out.

And here she is being a lazy bum, she was in her usual sleeping spot under the log, and to warm up she just crawled out and pancaked lol. She didnt move from that spot for atleast 15 minutes lol.

And as you can see her head is still in shed And unfortunatly before she could shed that and i could have alook at her color over her entire body she decided to shed her body again! so now her back is getting grey/cloudy . But i have noticed a nice red coming in around her spikes on her body, so im anxious to see how that looks after the stupid shed is gone lol

Well thats it for now, ive been really busy with work and school so i havnt been able to get many pictures. ill be sure to take alot as soon as her shed is done.

The new pics are great (I'm SO jealous of your picture taking ability) I hate that mine always seem to be shedding some body part all the time too. I just keep reminding myslef that shedding means growing, it dosen't help.

Wow, I love your viv! :O That's an awesome setup. I'll have to take some tips from you, ha ha! My first beardie, Ferdinand, died very suddenly after I'd only had him for a month, but I'm in the process of getting a new baby girl from TheVirus. c: The tank I have now is a 29 gallon that used to be for fish many years ago (it was my parents', and I found it in our storage area, lol), but Those sliding glass doors look much easier to use than it is for me to reach in from the top. How do you get your lamps in there, though? I have a clamp lamp for basking and my UVB is in a hood that I rest on top of the screen top, and I can't quite see in the photos how your lamps are in there.

Thanks! I wish i could turn off my basking light like i suggested to you, but its wired together with the UV light, so if ones off both are off . I keep forgetting to turn off the red light that i use to heat the viv up in the morning, so a couple of them have a red tint to it lol.

Thank you! The lights are just screwed into regular ceramic fixtures that are attached to the top of the viv, the whole thing is wired together so theres one power cord that comes out the back and plugs into the wall. Beats having to waste outlets for 3 different lights. And to make easier, the basking light and uv light are wired together and lead into a timer, so they go on and off at the same time. Definetly a plus since i work alot of nights and i dont have to worry about the lights being on all night until i get home.

Also after reading ur thread I have 2 quick questions...you mentioned, I think it was the first page, that you give your beardie a bath before shed, does this help them with their shed? Also another thing was buying PWs from ghanns cricket farm, are they good for buying PWs? because I need to buy a big order online of PWs but I don't know which is a reliable website to order from and aww sorry about what happened with your mom leaving Saphira in the feeding tank I would have been so upset too.

The person i got her from said she was 15 weeks old, so now she should be around 21 weeks, so about 5 months. And yes bathes do help with shedding, it hydrates the skin which helps the dead skin come off easier.

Ghanns is a good place to order from, they have great customer service and their prices are pretty low, the shipping can be a little high if you dont live down south around georgia, but it basically all comes out to the same price as other places. i think pheonixworms.com has a better deal for really big orders, i think i could get a thousand from them for about 10-15 dollars more than 400 + shipping from ghanns. But one of my containers of PW's died in a week when i ordered from ghanns, and they refunded me the price for it, so they are very reliable.

Actually it was my brother that left saphira in the feeding tank, shes fine now i was just extremely angry when i saw what he did. She was very cold when i got home and didnt have any heat to digest her food for a long time after she ate so i got a little worried, but she seems to be fine.

Thanks for the info on that viv! I'm not too good with tools, but I want to build my own viv some day (for the beardie, not me, ha ha) so I'm trying to figure out a lot of things like how wiring would work.

Well Happy Halloween everybody! And have i have presents for all of you!!! Pictures!! YAAAAY!

Yea i didnt go out tonight because the Yanks are playing game 3 in the world series, and being a yankees fan i cant miss even one game lol. But unfortunatly the games in a rain delay so i decided to take saphira out for play time, and take some pictures too!

Well that was our little adventure around the house today, shes never actually been downstairs except to get weighed and ive never put her down because im afraid the dog will try and eat her :shock:, but the puppy was sleepin so i thought it was alright.

Anyways, back to baseball game......if it will ever start lol
