The Dresden Files - 12/9 Ember is now at peace

I couldn't help myself with the title of this thread. It makes me smile! The Dresden Files are some of my favorite fantasy books about a magician/warlock detective in Chicago. I love them and the name, so my new beardie baby is now Dresden. He will soon have a brother whom I am adopting this weekend from a family not far from me. They are moving out of state and want him to have a good home. They tried to sell him on CL but had no takers, or if they did they didn't like who was inquiring because they want him to have a good home. They are giving me him, plus his whole 55 gallon tank and stand for super cheap.
Dresden was 10 inches and 47 grams as of 8/3/2011 and was hatched the week of May 9th, 2011 which makes him 13 weeks old.

Here is Dresden as of this morning

This is the soon-to-be-brother. I need to find him a name. How can you name a beardie before you meet him or her?

Well, if you want to keep in the same theme you could go Bob, which is always a pretty good name for a beardie :D Or Murphy? Sure, the character is female but beardies defy gender.
He looks like he might be a little rebel wizard and is well named!

Mirthy - What do you think of Ebenezer? He is Dresden's mentor, which kind of works cuz the new dragon is going to be older teehee!

Thanks Christina! Kazi looks good today! I love his face. He's such a cutie even if he's not feeling well. At least he's eating some more and hopefully now that you found a CC that he likes more he'll start eating more for you.

I don't know, when I hear Ebenezer, I still think Scrooge. :) I can't help it.
More than likely, something will just pop into your head though once you have him living with you.

Thank you! I can't wait to see what the new guy looks like in person and after a good bath and scrub. I think he's been in sand so I'm really excited to get him out it. He's got a new Reptisun as well so that should help perk him up a bit.

Dresden was in a funk when I got home last night. He ate a HUGE breakfast yesterday and then didn't want a thing for dinner. I tried dubia nymphs and reptiworms and he was having none of it. I tried this morning with similar results. He only ate 1 dubia. Maybe he's just adjusting!? I hope so. After Doyle I can't handle another beardie heartache. When I left the house this morning I left him with a bowl of reptiworms and his salad. Here's hoping he eats something today.

Don't worry too much about the not eating- it's most likely relocation stress- don't e surprised if he doesn't eat for the next week! Relocation stress hit Kazi 2 days after I got him. Huff didn't eat for nearly 2 weeks when I moved him downstairs! It is pretty normal- just keep offering food and hopefully he will take it soon.

Oh Christina I'm so thankful for you! If you hadn't said something I'm sure I would be getting the CC ready :) He wasn't interested in eating at all today. I even tried putting him a separate container with dubia nymphs to see if he'd be interested that way but no such luck. I saw that you have a small container of dubia in one of the pics of Kazi - does that work to keep the dubia from running all over the place? If it does I may have to try it!

I'm working on getting the other viv ready. My other Reptisun bulbs got here today so the new man will have a fresh UVB. The tile is being laid and it's almost done except for one tile. I missed the measurement and have to go back to the hardware store to have another 1/2" taken off :banghead: BUT hopefully that should be good. I need to get another thermometer going too...I thought I had one more but the battery is dead. I ended up repainting Doyle's basking rock to a gray color instead of the beige it was so the new guy can have it. His viv is going to be a bit more bland at least for now, but he'll have a hammock.

I was reading another thread where the male beardies who aren't used to company don't do well with others. I'm assuming that the new adult hasn't been around other beardies, and Dresden is a boy so I'm hoping they do OK. My room is big, and right now their vivs are next to each other...I don't really have a way for them to not be near each other. I'm getting him tomorrow though!!! Pics will be posted!

Hi Maggie.
Get something to cover the sides of the viv- new guy will go totally crazy if he catches sight of the little one- I mean CRAZY- il try later to upload a video of what could happen (Huffs reaction to other beardies, includig pics of them). The older Dresden gets, the worse it will be!

Hi Maggie,
When does the next new man arrive?
Little Dresden is so fat and healthy. He came out of his box so creamy white and must have thought, "Well, that was an adventure!" and then only later realized. "Crikey Mate, you know, I don't know where I the heck I am!" :D (all baby BDs start off with Aussie accents, right?)

Although I'm just a beginner at this, I recommend a separate eating area for Dresden with food that can scamper and hide. It's helped me keep track of exactly what Norris has consumed. I keep a little log and I just jot down what he eats when he eats it and when I weigh or measure him, that's where that goes as well. It just looks like this
Aug:
1 3c 7g - 6"
2 9c
3 2c
4 16c
etc and so on. I offer him greens but he eats so little of it, I'm not recording it. Norris is a bit under weight so the food diary comes in handy.

Anyway, Norris doesn't seem to mind the Cricket Colosseum. I put worms in there as well, in a bowl, and it seems to put him in eating mode! :blob5: I have a rep carpet in it, so the calcium dust and vitamin dust is easily rinsed and dried out without rising the humidity in his actual viv.

Thanks Mirthy! I'll have to figure out something because I don't want to keep having to play find-the-food in his viv. What do you use as the coliseum? Do you have pics? I totally agree about the Aussie accent. He may have been born in Arkansas but he's totally an Aussie!! I'll have to start keeping track of his food too, especially if he isn't eating much right now. For breakfast I did offer him some fruit to try to peak his appetite - he got a raspberry and a few bits of apple and seemed to enjoy them. I'm hoping he eat some more before I get home. I don't want that cute baby beardie belly to go!

Christina - I'm going to get something to cover up the side of the new beardie man's viv today. Hopefully he won't be stressing out too bad...This will be his 3rd home in 2 years. Poor guy is just being passed around. I want him to be hungry thought - I have so many male dubia to feed him! How's Kazi today?

I made the mistake of leaving a cup of nymphs out yesterday (I thought I had put the lid on before I left but I guess I didn't) and ended up with nymphs all over the room. :banghead: There is nothing worse than crawling into bed and seeing a dubia nymph run across the bed. I swear I jumped so high which is a feat considering I was lying down at the time.

Zoe - my ever-curious gray and white cat - just might be the funniest critter I know. She fell asleep in front of Dresden's viv. The other day she went to jump onto the 48 x 24 which she had done before as it was on it's side while I was letting the adhesive dry from attaching the light. She didn't realize I had moved it right side up to lay the tile, and jumped in. And proceeded to get stuck. Yup. My fur-for-brains cat got stuck in the 48x24 viv. She's so smart!

This morning was even better. Dres hates the noise of the screen sliding on and off of his viv so to save some morning stress I left the top off of his viv while I showered and he was warming up on his rock. I get out of the bathroom, walk into my room, and see Dres in the corner of his viv all dark and pissed. I walk closer to see what's got him all riled, and look closer. Zoe is IN his viv!!! I panicked, but of course I managed to snap a photo first because it was too hilarious to not get proof of. Zoe then got her scolding. I know she's just curious, but GEEZ!

Great pics- he looks much more relaxed in the bath- did the wash cloth help?

Zoe is very like my mums cat Poppy. When Phoebe and Kazi were living at my mums, Poppy spent most of her time trying to figure out how to eat them! I caught her trying to open the sliding doors one day!!! I know that if that had been Poppy in Dresdens viv, he wouldn't have laste too long!

Kazi has been very active today- a little too active for my liking tho! I bought Huff a new viv today (second hand but in perfect condition). Got it home, cleaned it all with disinfectant and then the steamer. I was wiping clean the class doors and knocked them together. One is now completely shattered so Huff will have to wait a while for his new home while I try to get a replacement door!

Yes Christina the wash cloth is a HUGE help. He's much more relaxed and even drank a bit off of his nose which was adorable!

Zoe has no interest in eating him. She's just curious about him. It kills me sometimes cuz she gets into EVERYTHING. I've found her in cupboards, stuck in vivs, closets, under cabinets...It's really quite impressive where she manages to end up. Zoe knows when she is in trouble too - I guess it's either my tone or her name but she knows when I call her Zoe Sassafras instead of Zo-Zo that she is in trouble and generally tries to run away from whatever it is she's doing except when she's in a viv and can't run

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
