Tales of Thresh and Fizz *Update*

Hi everyone!

So Deb was amazing today and came over and helped me pick out the new baby for the family. Except he isn't so much of a baby. And he may also may not be a he. He's from the same clutch as Baron was from, so his birthday is March 10th! And holy moly what a healthy juvie.

Even though he is a bit small at 12 inches, he can eat. Let me tell you, he can eat. Deb got pictures of him eating when I first gave him food 5 minutes after him being in the tank. 2 bowls of roaches later and a bowl and a half of baby bok choi and he seemed content. SO. PICTURES. I only got 3 before my camera died. :(

The last two are kind of crappy...But the camera was making angry red flashes at me and I was trying to get some.

Keep us posted on the vet visit and I'm sure Thresh will be fine for breeding. She'd make the most beautiful babies.

Update on Thresh:
The bone is healing. He thinks she has something called osteo mitosis or something? He has an accent and is hard to understand. He sees no point in amputating but we have to put her on antibiotic injections for another 28 days and b12 injections for her appetite every 3-4 as needed. And hopefully it will continue to heal, we'll do a follow up xray in 4 weeks to see.

Fizz is doing incredible, he's over 8.5 inches long and over 28g now. He eats like a little monster every day, I'm thinking he's figured out the bowl, but not sure yet.

Thanks for the update. Good to hear that Thresh is improving. Little Fizz must be lots of fun. I love the baby stage. :)

That's good that he feels the bone is healing. Could he have said osteomyelitis perhaps which is a bone infection? That would explain why he is recommending the antibiotic injections.

Hope the injections help as well as the B12 so she can feel better.

Happy to hear that Fizz is doing so well. He sure is growing. :)

I'm glad Thresh is improving too, though she's lost 20g because she just isn't eating. She only took 3 hormworms today, she normally takes 6+(and I got her 5). And yes! Osteomyelitis! That was it! I'm so sad she has to be on baytril for another 4 weeks, though. That's 6 weeks total. :( I'm thinking I could put her on her injection around 7-8 at night and then give her probiotics at 9 in the morning when I wake up. What do you all think? I'm hoping that will keep her perkier then the last 2 weeks of injections in the morning and probiotics at night.

Fizz is great, but he HATES worms! He hates horns, I couldn't believe it. He wouldn't look at them. But a roach? Right on top of it and happy as could be. He's starting to be less stress marky around us, still hunkers down a bit when we enter the bedroom but he's a lot lighter all the time so I'm glad for that. :)

I am so relieved that you don't have to amputate Thresh's foot & that she's slowly healing. And no, it won't do her any harm to have her injections at night & then probiotics in the am. Baytril is very harsh on the stomach, much more than any other med I've used on the dragons, so that would explain her lack of appetite. Can you give her probiotics a bit more often than just in the am? Hopefully that will help. Losing some weight won't hurt her, but I agree with you on being concerned about her lack of appetite, at least she's eating something.

Fizz sounds like a real dynamo, so glad he's enjoying the roaches. If you need more babies, let me know, I have another colony I was given on the weekend, have tons of babies that I don't need.

I don't want to risk giving her the probiotics to close to her injections, since the probiotics won't do anything if it's been given to close to the antibiotics.

I'm good on the roaches, I'm going to build a roach sorter either this week or next. We're upgrading Draxel up to a new tub because he's so big for his current one and depending on how much it costs we'll pick up tubs for the roach sorter.

The vet is very fair, the appointment today was 170 total, 100 for a full body xray(I wanted to check for any other abnormalities), 40 for B12 and Baytril and 25 for the visit. I was very happy!

I'm so glad you found a good vet close by, it's so important! And very reasonable, too. And yes, I understand no wanting to give her probiotics in the eve, I was meaning at noon if you're home, but then again, you're working full shifts now, so that's out. I always gave the probiotics before I left for work, too.

Hi All,

Thresh is doing okay. She hates injections. Runs from me and the needle. I feel terrible, but the injections are doing well in the evening and probiotics in the morning.

Fizz is doing incredible. He's 2 months now, I measured him on Thursday and he was 9 inches long and 31 grams, and measured him again last night and he was 9.5 inches. Not sure about grams. He's going into another full body shed. I'm so pleased! He's a lil' firecracker, too. Always on the move!

I really recommend FairyTail Dragons to buy dragons from, they just THRIVE, and they're so gorgeous and handle well. And Heather is just a great woman, I sent her an update about Fizz today and she was thrilled to hear from me. She really cares about her dragons, even those she's sold and continues to care for them. It's a great feeling and I can only hope to be like that when I breed!

I'm thrilled that Fizz is doing so well & that he's full of life! It's a great felling to buy a dragon that thrives so well. And that Heather is glad to be in touch is great.

I'm sorry Thresh doesn't like the needles, but if it saves her food, so worth it. Hang in, Mom, it'll be done soon and hopefullly this round will be the last one!

Thought I'd get a small update up. I have lots of pictures but I'll do a big Photo Dump probably Tuesday.

Fizz is growing incredibly well. I think he's over 10 inchs now, he just finished his second full body shed with me. We've had him for 25 days and he's just over 2 months. Hatchday was the 19th-20th so.
I also walked into the bedroom a couple of minutes ago and found him head first in his roach dish. HA. He can eat out of a bowl! I knew it! I was wondering why the roaches kept disappearing every morning! But he doesn't want me knowing, I saw him, he froze, spun around, I managed to snag a picture, and he darted out.

Thresh hates the needles...she runs from me every time now and I have to bundle her up really tightly in a tea towel, then wrap her head, give her her shot and then she runs as soon as I'm done. It's stressful on both of us...She's eating okay, still taking bugs at least.

Two pictures of Fizz:

So funny, you caught Fizz eating  Oh the horror  Love the pictures, too, he sure has grown. So glad he's eating out of a bowl. I just noticed, what are you using for his substrate? Aren't you using tiles, like Thresh?

I'm sorry Thresh is having so much trouble with the needles, drag for both of you, but necessary. My boys have been fine with needles, guess I'm really lucky that way. Hopefully this bout of needles works and she's free of the infection.

Liz told me Sorin is now having more needles because he's got the same thing in another foot. It's freaking me out that this is happening to so many young dragons. I have appts with my vet for every one of my dragons in July (extra pay!) & fecals, too, hopefully everyone is ok.

Take care! Let me know when I can visit! I still have days off during the week in July, I'm back full time in August so I can save a couple of days for when the new baby comes, Oct 19 is the date, so we'll see, she's having a cesarean again.

And my dad is recovering very nicely from his fall, we're all very glad nothing was broken; he's seeing a good physio weekly for his arm that was hurt. He'll feel better when he can go golfing again

I'm using Excavator Clay for Fizz, it starts as a loose, but as soon as water hits it, it dries rock solid, you just brush+vacuum the tiny loose bits off. I really like it, it stays warm for him. His basking spot is still some tile, but I wanted to test the Excavator Clay since it's so similar(almost identical) to what they live on in Australia. He has grown so much! I'm really happy about it. I will have to change it out in 6mo-1 year so I'll probably switch him to Tile after since this stuff took almost 2 weeks to fully dry.

Thresh just hates the needles...It makes me really sad and frustrated. The vet said the infection was caused by an old wound, the only thing I can think of is maybe the wood fixtures I got her caused a small cut, it healed and then the infection happened. It's not what Sorin has at all, this was something else.

You can visit soon I hope. I only get Mon/Tues off now though. I need your help to sort through my adult roaches. I built a really cool sifter that works REALLY well, but I can't sort through the adults...they creep me out to much!

I'd be happy to help and if you need more, let me know, I have 2 colonies now. Joanne is extremely allergic to them so I have her 10 gallon tank full. I've been using that tank so I don't bother the other one, but I'm going to have to cull them down, I have so darned many now, more than 2 dragons can eat, that's for sure. I have TONS of babies, if you need any, let me know. The only Tuesday I have off is July 22, I have physio at 11:20 that day, I can come over right away afterwards if you want & help you with that. Otherwise Monday, Aug 4, which is a holiday, would be the next day I have off. I'm not taking any time off in August, having to work 5 days a week (drag) until I hear from long term, I'm working on the appeal now.

I heard about this clay, just keep your eye on it, because it doesn't stay as solid as it's supposed to, but if you're vacuuming out whatever is loose, then that's fine. I'm so excited to see Fizz and Thresh, it's been ages. I'm so glad Fizz is doing so well & loves his roaches!

I knew Thresh's problem wasn't the same as Sorin's, I think he's go the same sort of thing that Scully had, not sure though. At least for Scully getting her arm amputated stopped the problem, even though it was a very drastic way to solve the problem. She's still laying eggs, so she's going to the vet soon to be spayed.

Keep in touch, I have no issues with dealing with the adults at all. I just cleaned out the 10 gallon today, changed the egg cartons, so if you want me to do that, too, I can.

Sorry for disappearing everyone. :)

Thresh went to the vet and we decided, after 6 weeks of Baytril injections, we would let her body try to heal the rest of the injury on it's own. The injection was barely visible on the last xray, so it's mostly healed. He said if it returns, it would be in 3-4 months before we would try treatment again. Here's hoping!!
She is getting grey spots on her injection site. Of course I'm terrified of YF, and feeding her Probiotics daily. I'm hoping it's just shed though.

Fizz is huge now. He's almost 14 inches long at a little bit over 3 months old(hatch day 4/19-4/21). I can't believe how large he is now! And he's eating sooo much.

I had a commission done of Thresh, I got it framed and here she is with it, a bit cranky at being woken up early.

I'm so in love with it, and the pictures just do not do it justice. I'm going to get one done of all the pets and have a mural in the living room, or bedroom. Just need the money!

This is the info for the commissioner:: http://thefrecklebum.tumblr.com/tagged/commission info

Her name is Charli, she's a friend of mine and was the one that introduced me to Heather at Fairytail. Without her I wouldn't have gotten Fizz! And she's so talented.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
