I can keep the beetles alive fine. But how do I know when they start producing. It's been about a month and I've gone through about 2 dozen beetles, but there doesnt seem to be any offspring...
When I was raising supers it sure did take a long time to get them to grow. If you have had your beetles in the same container for a month, you should transfer them out to another one. I did this monthly, whether I noticed any new supers or not. Eventually, you will see some small movement, but it will take a long time. I had a small colony going, but gave up because my dubia were doing so well. There are a lot of threads on here about raising supers and a lot of members have had luck. It just wasn't for me.
Yes you should. What is the substrate that you are using now? Oatmeal? Just place new oatmeal in another container and transfer the beetles into there. Place some carrots into both containers then just let them go.
