Hi everyone,

It has been ages since I've been on bd.org due to life being busy. I wanted to give you a quick update on Squishy the beardie that is suffering from gout and recovered/ing from MBD as her previous thread in the ER is locked due to inactivity...

Squishy has been doing great! :D She is still on Allopurinol daily and Metacam oral as needed. She gets 5cc SQ fluids (LRS) every 2-4 days depending on how busy my schedule is and baths every second day. She went to my work for a week in November while I went away as there are a bunch of vet techs and I knew they would be able to medicate her as needed. She came home even perkier than when she went there - she seemed to like it there. She has been the most active this winter (Canada) then all the other winters combined. She had lost some weight just before boarding at my work (down to 370gm) however she is now back up to to a chunky, healthy 390gm and still climbing. I will be taking her back into the vet's probably in January as it has been a while since her last check-up/bloodwork. She is loving her greens these days which were always difficult to get into her so that has been awesome! :blob5:

She is coming up on 2 years since her original diagnosis so I think she may get a gift of a new tank... She is in a standard 30 gallon tank now (36 x 18 x 15) as she has limited mobility. I think I am going to get her one of the Hagen 36 x 18 x 18 tanks just because it has the front doors and it would make taking her out every day soooo much easier on my part. Unfortunately they don't make one a bit bigger... unless I go taller, which she doesn't need.

Hello,

I am happy to hear that Squishy has done so well on the allopurinol. Not many people have the staying power to continue the treatment. That is the key, to continue the treatment gives them a fair chance at a normal life.
It sounds like she is eating well also!
How long has she been on the allopurinol now?
Great, a new tank, too a late christmas present?
Let us know the results of the blood test when you get them. Thanks.

So Squishy goes in for repeat blood work on Friday (only 2 more days!)

She has been on the Allopurinol for about 2 years now. It was Mar 2011 that she first got sick and it was shortly afterwards that she was started on it.

I'll post next week when I get those results in!

Squishy is doing much better than we had hoped. She has lost a little bit of weight since June when she was in last but still within acceptable ranges. She was very well behaved for her blood draw - it is amazing what a little bit of Emla cream does... :) I should find out early next week what her blood work is looking like. Hopefully she is getting that new tank! She has been eating her greens like it is nobody's business, great appetite, good water intake, takes her Allopurinol and Metacam like a champ.

We are going to look into some higher calorie foods for her. She is on restricted proteins for her renal failure/gout issues but the greens with 5-10% protein just isn't allowing her to maintain her weight. Do you guys (Tracy) know of any critical care/high cal herbivore foods that we can get her? She will still get her supers/horns once a week but something to give her more calories instead of just greens...

Anyways, I will update next week when we get those results back and I'll post her last set of values as well for comparison.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
