SolarGlo for Wooden 4x2x2 Viv

We are converting a wooden bar to make a Vivarium just about 8 square feet. Will a 160w Solar Glo give enough UVB for the entire area?

I prefer using a 22'' T5 since it casts a wider, more even beam of UVB over a large enclosure. It should sit about 12'' above the basking area for best results. http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/22-t-5-ho-fixture-high-output-with-arcadia-d3-12-ho-bulb/ This will also allow you to control the heat independently which can be helpful.

If you do decide to use a MVB, I suggest using a MegaRay instead of a Solar Glo. They are much higher quality. The 100w should sit about 10-12'' above the basking area while the 160w should be about 16-20'' above the basking area.

Thanks, that makes more sense. What is the best option for heat?

I use a PAR38 halogen flood light and it works well. The advantage is that it's dimmable so once you get a wattage that provides a good heat gradient, you can fine tune the output as seasons change or if temps need adjustments for any reason. It helps when you have a fixed top and can't just raise/lower the bulb.

I like the fact it is dimmable. We plan to only vent through the sides and not have a screen top, so adjustable heat will be necessary. Thanks for your advice!

When you create the side vents, I suggest low vents on the cool side and high vents on the warm side. This should allow convection to pull the air through the tank nicely.

I wouldn't bother with back vents but it shouldn't hurt to add them if you want.
