Any kind of worm really shouldn't be used as a staple. They are higher in fat pretty much across the board. Yes, that includes Phoenix worms. Properly dusted/gut-loaded crickets and roaches are the best options out there for feeders.

Yea that's what I thought and then I read someones blog and they mentioned repti worms as a staple?.. The only reason I am wanting something other than crickets is because of the smell and dirtyness to them?.. And can't they produce perisites?..
I am right now useing Crickets, and Capone won't eat them , I have been noticeing a couple of the crickets to be darker colors... I just recently switched to this petsore .. and he doesn't seem to like them , I am going to try to go back to my old supplier that is a few towns over.. its a little bit of a pain , but if he isn't eatting I gotta do something! He seem's to go for worms no problem! I can mealworms/super worms... but everything is a huge challenge , and dubia's are out of the question they are illeagal?

Phoenix Worms(R) are actually a low-fat feeder, about 9% fat compared to crickets at about 6%. They are an excellent staple food which http://www.beautifuldragons.com recommends "Feed daily, staple." Waxworms and superworms are the worms which are high in fat content.

I'm familiar with the website, and respect your position within the community. That being said, I stand behind my previous statement.

Beautiful , thanx!... Where are they located?.. Will a 1000 make it thru a shipment to Ontario?.. And how do you keep them alive?.. Meaning do they need oatmeal?.. Cardboard?.. What do they eat, can they be put in the fridge etc?... I guess I could look it up , but it's always better to have someones first hadn knowledge! :) Once again thanks so much!

I believe they are located in Saskatchewan. Check there website. They have a live guarantee, and they give you all the info you need to keep each of there feeders alive.

Phoenix worms (larvae of the Hermetia illucens, commonly known as Soldier Fly). An excellent feeder insect from dart frogs to bearded dragons.

Phoenix Worms are the only calcium-rich feeder with the perfect balance of calcium and phosphorus, 1.5:1. This natural balance means that Phoenix Worms can be a staple in your pet's diet. Breeders report that hatchlings that are fed PWs right from the start are more than 30% larger than their clutch mates after just a few weeks! They also note higher activity levels and brighter colours for the babies that were fed PWs.

Phoenix Worms are ready to serve when you take them home. There's no need to dust or gut load these insects before feeding your pet. Phoenix Worms are low in fat and naturally have 23 to 61 times more calcium than other commonly fed feeder insects!

-No need to culture them!
-You don't feed them!
-Stay fresh in their cup for weeks at room temperature (even longer at 50-60 degrees).
-No noise!
-No odour!
-Will stay in a dish--no escapees in the house!
-Convenient to take on vacation--or easy for a pet sitter to serve while you're away.
-You're going to enjoy watching your pet discover this new food. People tell us that their animals get excited when they see the "black cup" coming!
-They wiggle like crazy which excites and entices herps. Great food for a picky eater!
-They taste good (a guess, but herps greedily consume them).
-Stimulate the appetite of animals that don't readily feed.
-Can halt or reverse the effects of metabolic bone disease.
-Provide a boost of nutrition for gravid or just-laid females.
-A great start for all hatchlings!

Small Phoenix Worms are approximately 1/4” long.
Medium Phoenix Worms are approximately 1/2” long.
Large Phoenix Worms are approximately 3/4” long.

Direct from there website regarding phoenix worms.

We cannot ship directly to customers in Canada due to customs restrictions. However, we have three distributors in Canada who have obtained the required permits to import Phoenix Worms(R). Each distributor sells online and also supplies local pet stores but you would need to contact them directly to see if there is a store near you. The distributors are Bug Order in AL, Super Cricket in SK, and Recorp in ON.
