Good news... I didn't put anything on the chest wound today (previously had been using silver cream) and it's starting to scab! Yay!

Hermie's poop is no longer bright blue! (Am using the dosing you recommended Tracie)

I didn't force feed food today and she once again ate some food off her nose... Not a lot. She's drinking a lot tho.

Hoping for the best.

Thanks Esther!

I just thought I would clarify previous post. I didn't put any ointment on the wound today but I did put a bandage on it.

Hello Gabrielle,

Great, I am glad her stool is improved now. She just had too much in her system.
At least she ate a little something anyway, that is better than nothing. Are her colors good also?
I am happy to hear her wound is scabbing up some now! I really hope that she is getting better now.

Keep us posted, what a sweet girl she is. :D

Hi Tracie,
I keep forgetting to update you on her "colors" - her head and part of her tail are a nice orange/citrus. but her back is still in need of a shed... it looks more dark/ tannish... I took off her bandage today for a bit so that she could get some time to stretch her back / get some UV on it...

Here's some pictures from an hour ago...

I also PM'd you about her mouth....
Thanks

Another update today... I found that tufts vet school has a hospital not too far away with a specialized exotics team that only treats exotics. (Thx CooperDragon!) I'm calling them tomorrow to set up an appointment this week. Still worried about her jaw and wound. (Spoke to their emergency group today but exotics specialists are only avail during the work week)

Also I was looking at wound pic from jan 10th:

Jan 10
78760-2855401319.jpg

And today's pic Is so much worse I think. The black spot on her would (right side of pic) is an area where the scab did not fall off and the rest of the scab did... Twice. So that is an 'older scab' area.

Today:

Her jaw:

78760-8829833259.jpg

I offered her food on her nose about 5 times today and she took a little each time. I'm wondering if I shd just mix her meds into some food and drop on her nose... So that I don't have to do any force feeding.

78760-2870902182.jpg

Here she is getting some water via her vent. She drinks a ton by mouth too.

78760-8731845114.jpg

She isn't super active but she was alert and curious or feisty today every time I interacted with her.

I'm astounded that she acts as well as she does despite so many problems. I'll have tufts retest the wound for bacterial and fungal I think. We need to find out what the problem is so that it can be treated correctly. Anything else I shd test for? Of course I'll have them X-ray her jaw too. :(

Today was 3rd dose of totrizural paste - when shd I check coccidia levels again Tracie?

Please say a pray for Hermie!
Thx
Gab

Hello Gabrielle,

It is astounding she is so spirited, just amazing. I am so sorry that she has had so many issues though.
I would try just dropping food onto the end of her nose to let her lick off food to help with her jaw.
It does look like it could be broken or dislocated. Her teeth/gums are separated. I hope that it
doesn't hurt her too badly.
How often does that area scab over & then have the scab fall off? I still think that they need to find a way to try & keep a scab covered on that area to help it heal better. The scab constantly coming off keeps damaging the area & it needs to heal up better.
You can get a fecal done anytime on her for the coccidia. Are her stools better now?

I so wish I could help out more. Let us know how Hermies is doing.

Excited you are going to an exotic vet school. I still think it is yellow fungus and her poor jaw looks broken. That is the bone that is out. Good luck. I hope an exotic vet can really help her!

Tufts exotics vet school Initial consult is $187... Eek.

Anyone else know of reptile/Herp vet in So. NH or northern mass/Boston area? Just thought I'd double check if I have other options.

Geez, that's pretty expensive. They still may have some of the best diagnostic tools around and be able to provide some more complex treatment than normal if needed. If that's out of budget, it may be worth checking this place out http://exoticandbirdclinic.com (not sure if it's any cheaper, they just have reptile experience)

Ha! Thanks for trying! :)
That's the vet I started with!
I left him cuz:
1) hermies chest wound kept getting worse and I kept emailing him pictures of it asking if I should bring her in, and he didn't think I needed to. ??? Which made no sense to me.
2) He never tested them for parasites..,,which they both had.
3) he didn't seem too concerned about getting them better and the lab he sent the culture to took 3 months to get results...
4) I gave up on him tho he supposedly had a fabulous reputation cuz Hermie kept getting worse and he wasn't concerned.

~~~> then we moved on to Northside vet and she found out they had parasites right away. (Thumbs up) but never got me answers on what was causing the wound. (Thumbs down) thinks it's not fungal but prescribed voriconazole in dose 7x more than Hermie should have (big thumbs down)
Sigh.
Both are "exotic" vets that see dogs and cats too.
I found "odd pet vet" and left a message - looks good - but I'm not sure if we can get in. Looks like he doesn't work full time. Waiting for a call back - may end up at tufts.
I do really appreciate your attempts!!!
Hrm. In that case, if the experienced local exotic vets aren't panning out, I would just let the teaching hospital have a look if you can fit it in your budget. Illinois wasn't quite that expensive for an exam (Urbana is a cheaper area than Boston suburbs by far) but it was well worth it for each of my guys.
I'll see what the "odd pet vet" has for prices and then may end up at tufts :)
Sorry if my grumpiness came thru. Frustrated w/local vets and tired of this snow and worried about Hermie.
Hello Gabrielle,
How is little Hermie doing tonight? Is she doing better on the meds now that they are adjusted to her weight?
I hope that something breaks soon, she needs to get better!
You are doing all you can right now, keep up the great work. Let us know how things pan out with the vet search.
Great news! Hermie and Nammer are going to the "odd pet vet" (not a fan of the name) on Thursday! It's at the New England wildlife center. http://wildlife-education-center.com/odd-pet-ve/exotic-animals-veterinary-clinic/
They have same price for 2 as for 1... $63! :) It's just over an hour ride. Not bad.
Nammers been doing great and started eating crix again (store was out of worms). She loves chasing them in her tank and catches them all!! So cute. She has a little spot on her arm that I treat w/ anti-fungal cream. Almost gone and her toes look great.
Hermie had a good day yesterday. I stopped force feeding meds and supplements and mix them w/ a bit of food instead. She got most of it in I believe. She licks the food off her nose. I just can't force feed anything right now as I'm afraid of hurting her. She didn't poop Sunday and had small poop yesterday and even smaller today. :( (somewhat green from the 2x/week spirulina) pictures below. I don't think she's taking in much food based on her poop. She has not shed her back yet. In need tho I think. When I interact with her tho she's usually curious and alert.
Her scab is still intact and I'm hoping the vets on thurs can find a way to keep it intact.
So excited to try new vet! :) :) :)
That's about it for today.
Gab
Guess which is Nammer's and which is Hermie's. :(
Hermie's today was just a smear. :(
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
