Went to get another CHE lamp at petco (one shared b/n two sides of tank isn't quite warm enough) and saw these poor babies. I notified two people in the store that babies need 100-110 basking. The therm said 80.

Hi Jenna, Tracie and all following Hermie and Nammers story,

Sorry for delay in updating lately. I've been sick and went to urgent care last night only to find out I've got pneumonia.
:( the upside is that I shd get better now on zpack.

There were a few days last week that I thought Hermie might not make it. I prayed to God asking him to heal Hermie or take her. Well next morning Hermie was brighter looking. :)

She is not eating the drops of carn care off her nose at all anymore :( so I "force feed" her. I know I'm not over feeding because her poops are pretty scrawny. I hate to force feed tho. I spoke to vet wed and no results yet. She suggested trying acupuncture and a medicine to stimulate her appetite. I got sick later that day and haven't followed up yet.

So we are plugging along. Hopefully I'll get appetite stimulant w/in a couple days. And results on fungus.

My personal opinion tho is that some of the black marks on belly are getting better. I'm not sure about wound.

Yesterday (Sat 1/10)

Take care
Gab

Acupuncture is cleary not the answer here.I have heard it helps disorders in cats but I can definetly tell you that she needs to be worrying about that wound instead of acupuncture. A simple scale scrape could have told her if it was fungal or not . That way she can treat her for fungus even it it isn't CANV. A dragon not eating is a horrible sign. You need to get results on this fungus fast. Everything we are seeing is pointing towards fungus. The black spots appearing. I'm actually surprised your dragon has survived this long. I feel so bad for you getting the run around. Can you go for a revisit to a vet you previously went to and get them to do a skin scrape?

Hello Gabrielle,

It does look like the other areas are looking a bit better. When in the world are they going to have the fungal results?
Were they referring to acupuncture to help alleviate pain?
I am sorry that she isn't eating right now. She wont lick any food off of her nose? Keep trying...are you keeping her warm overnight also?
I am sorry she has not recovered yet, but try to get the vet to speed up the results if you can.

Keep us posted on them both.

Hi All, I'll respond to questions from individuals all in one post. :)

Hi Esther,
Thx for asking, I'm much improved as of today. My energy levels are back to normal - just some chest congestion left. No fever or chills. :)

Nammer is awesome - growing eating and pooping.

Hermie is holding her own the last handful of days. She definitely doesn't look like she's dieing and in fact she eats some carnivore care dropped on her nose the last two days. Not enough to only do that, but it's definitely an improvement. I do think she is responding to the fungal treatments as well. Will keep plugging along.

Hi Tracie,

I did call vet and got an answer yesterday. The culture of her chest wound isn't growing anything fungal yet. I'm still treating it as fungal tho.

I'm not sure but I think the acupuncture was suggested for appetite possibly. I've been using Bactrine spray on her wound.

I do keep the tank at 80 overnight on both sides.

Hi Jenna,

I'm not sure how a simple "scrape" differs from what the vet did. She took some fresh scab and took swabbings from the wound directly and put it in a vial with liquid. She said it would turn red if any fungus was there. It hasn't turned red as of yesterday.

Because of my pneumonia I haven't had the energy to do more than give basic care to the dragons until today.

I think the other vet would give me an Rx for an oral anti-fungal if I asked. I think this vet might even. To be honest, I'm not 100% sure that's the best thing to do if the other vets current test isn't indicating it's fungus since that medicine is so harsh on their systems. I think they are 7 months old and Hermie is only about 34 grams.

Thanks all,
Gabrielle

Thank you, dear, for the informative report. It sounds like things are looking up all around. I agree with your reluctance to use an oral anti-fungal. Hermie's eating CC, even if it's only a little bit sounds very promising. :D

Hello Gabrielle,

I hope you are feeling better.
How are the two doing today?

I am glad to hear that Miss herman did eat some carnivore care for you. How much did she have?
The culture is not growing anything at all yet? There really isn't much else it could be, do they have any other ideas if it doesn't end up being fungal?
Continue to put cream on, in the rotations you are doing, I don't see a problem with that.

I hope she is doing better! Keep us posted on her.
I am happy to hear Nammer is doing great!

Hi everyone,

Kind of back at square one....
I got a call from the vets office telling me it is definitely not fungus on the chest wound. :( I'm not sure where to turn now...

I didn't speak to the vet herself it was just someone relaying the info so I wasn't able to ask any questions yet.

I'm considering if it is worthwhile to directly test thru vetdna for fungus or should I test hermies chest wound for something else. For now I'm going to use silver cream and vetericyn on the wound as well as chlorhexidine baths.

If it's probably not a burn or fungal infection, what else could it be?

Thanks
Gabrielle

Just my thinking... I don't believe it is a burn because it keeps scabbing and coming off. Usually burn scabs get scabs and continue to heal. I would keep doing diluted betadyne and maybe try the antifungal and neosporin. The white kind of neosporin. If it seems to.be healing g with the antifungal don't stop. So weird was willing to put my money on fungus. Did she put a sample under a microscope?

Today -

I use Bactine on her wound and I think it keeps her from feeling pain. I do think areas around wound are getting better but today I think the wound itself looks worse. Looks red underneath (edit: pink really/ not bloody at all) - not sure if that's good or bad. It does keep scabbing then scab breaks off. Repeat.

Oh my gosh. Poor Hermie. You are incredibly brave and dedicated to her to have kept your sanity through this. I have no idea what that could be. I'm so sorry you're both having to go through this.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
