This is Hiccup. He's about 5inches without his tail. I'm not sure how old he is, if someone could tell me how old they are at his size that would be appreciated!
Helius Incendus Maximus after we got him at over 7 months of age. We were told he was a red morph. Dont know anything more. I'll post his various color changes below. Anyone any ideas about what kind he is?
His lavenders and red/orange that comes out sometimes
Heli's first photo at 7 months of age with my very excited son
And me on a very sad rainy day after I found out BowTie publications suspended several print magazines you see in the pet stores. I wrote for Ferrets, Ferrets USA, Critters USA, Bird Talk and Bird Talk USA. We are trying to keep Ferrets magazine online at the critter channel website alive. Even Dog World is done. I was happy to have someone to spend the afternoon with. The birds are too damanding and hyper and the ferrets are way too "happy". Lol.
Wow your beardie certainly has a lt of color states! Beautiful beardie. He almost looks like he is translescent in the lavender/orange coloring. Which actually is one of the types. Hopefuly someone with beardie color and morph experience will help you figure it out.
I didnt know what my girl was either and between 2 of the posters I discovered she was a hypo (because of all clear nails) and a tiger morph (because of the tiger stripes on her sides. The petstore said she was a baby red when I got her. So I guess that makes her a hypo red tiger? :| However to me she looks a mixture of yellow and orange. When she was a baby she did have 2 dark orange to reddish stripes down her back and along her spikes.
I would love to find out about mine. It is, it is so hard to figure it out given his radical color AND marking (in contrast) are. It's ridiculous how much so. I was hoping that over time his colors would get richer. I've heard that happens, but they aren't. I read that some red morphs that aren't bred well .. will fade.
The males I do know genetically have a richer more vibrant coloring than the females. I have also heard that lightening can play a huge part in how vibrant the colors will become. I purchased a very expensive (ridiculously so I must say) bulb (mega ray) that I plan to use when I put her new habitat together in the next week or so. So will see if that along with her multi vitamins, calcium and probiotic will enhance her colors. If not she's beautiful just the same.
I hope no one takes offense to this but I am saying this out of genuine caring and concern. Clean the glass of your beardie's habitat (at least weekly if possible). I don't know if it's true but I didn't want to take a chance. The streak buildup I was told can habor bacteria. Has anyone else heard this? I use a misting bottle with 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water to wipe down the glass inside and out. It also leaves your glass looking clean and pretty.
No, I never heard of that. But I'm not educated about reps an amphs.
So, I"m just curious. Whats better than the repitsun 10.0? Also, I have an 18 inch one over a 40 gallon. My boy sits under it most of his life. So, I thought a longer one might not be necessary?
Yeah, got my diet and vitamins down pat. I was wondering if there was anything to them eating sweet potatos and carrots to bring out colors (reds and oranges) like with mammals. Mines still on a mostly insect diet, so he wont eat more than a bite a day, but for when he does get going on his veggies, I was wondering about that.

Hmmm that's a good question about the sweet potato and carrots. Betacarotene I guess would enhance red, yellow and orange colors. As for the light...there has been controversy about some of the zoo-med and zilla lights. I have choosen to just stick with exo-terra to make my life easier and when possible I order the mega-ray bulbs. You can read about the case studies on the bulb brands mentioned by going to the link below...
Thats a study regarding the "compact" bulbs and "lamps". Those arent' good, even dangerous, no matter what brand. Especially the mercury ones. The Reptisun 10.0, I thought, was the most studied and recommended "tube" bulb.
