reptisun 10.0.. going to be getting a new one come march. I have been trying do it at least once a week however its come to light that he will not eat crickets anymore and has been sticking mostly to a diet of super worms and veggies. should i increase his calcium uptake to daily?
So you are saying that the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube that you have is almost 1 year old?
He needs a new one as soon as possible, as it has stopped producing much of any UVB emissions. He is not able to process his calcium properly. Yes increase his calcium 5 times per week right now, & if you don't dust the superworms put the calcium powder on the greens either way is fine.
Thank you all very much for the advice. We are ordering his new uv bulb this week.. and yes it is a tube. i've been using a uv a/b bulb for the time being to get him back to health. We have also uped his intake of calcium... I always wondered why he just ate the calcium from the top of his veggies. in addition to get him back on his "feet" i've been feeding him a liquid diet consisting of all his vita-needs.
GREAT you got a new UVB tube ordered. You ordered a Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb, correct? Remember for future purchases, the flourescent tube bulbs need to be replaced every 5-6 months for them to maintain optimal UVB emissions.
That is probably why he was eating the calcium powder because his body was craving it & not absorbing it very well.
How is he doing now?
The UVB tube needs to be 6-8 inches from him, & placed directly beside the basking light so that there is a focused basking spot with heat & UVB all in one area for him.
