Scrambling Antics

These past two days, my beardie has begun to scramble along the perimeter of his enclosure, clawing at the wall and not settling down much at all. He especially gets into one corner on the basking side and glass surfs like he wants to climb or get out. He has a backdrop and it almost looks like he thinks the scene is more space for him to explore so he tries to get to it.

He also does this while there's more than one poo pile in the tank. Does the smell bother him and he's trying to get away from it?

I put two new commercial hides in the tank yesterday to see if he would curl up and calm down since I think he's shedding around his face. But all he wants to do is try climbing the walls.

I would say the poo piles are likely bothering him, yes. Do you notice how he walks away from his poo after he releases it? They are very clean animals, as in they want NOTHING to do with their fecal matter. It's a breeding ground for bacteria, as well, so as soon as you see one, you should remove it.

Is there anything else in his tank or routine that has been changed? New bulb, food, sleep schedule?

Perhaps I made too many changes at once. I put down ceramic tiles as well as the two hides and a commercial faux tree branch.

Yes that could be causing the glass surfing. Your little one will get used to it soon. But I would still make sure to clean up any poo in the tank as soon as you see it.

Hi. How old is he/she? Hormones can also be causing restlessness.

I'm not absolutely certain of his age. He's a rescue from a coworker who claims she's had him for 5 or so years so he's certainly in his adulthood.
