Tracie, Are there any issues thyroid related maybe or gland related that cause pogona to not be able to thermoregulate? I have never seen this issue in any of mine.

Hello,

There can be a cyst or tumor on the thyroid which could interfere with functions of the body, sure.
I don't know how common that is but anything is possible.
It really doesn't sound like it could be his tank, honestly since he is pretty used to everything in there.
The soy yogurt should help out for him for probiotics but maybe you could mix the bee pollen in with his slurry if you get a chance.
If you could get him eating worms some during the week that would be great.
Some don't ever fully brumate while others do. It is a very normal behavior for them though, but you are pretty sure this isn't what is going on right?

Do you have a high/low thermometer to check the overnight low temps? I am wondering if because the tank is lower to the ground if it gets a bit cooler. I know you have a blanket for him but they don't always stay put.
He actually sleeps on my bed in his own dog bed, so there isn't a problem with that.

It could be, but I was always afraid that the lack of energy was due to the fluid around the heart. He was running around today though, here's a video showing how weird he walks now. ]

What about the tshirt? Can you remove that? Has that been in there this whole time?
I could but, he seems to like having them in there. Often the shirts don't stay in for more than two to three days, if that because he normally ends up pooping on it. The poop goes in the toilet and his shirts get washed when there are enough to fill a load.

Have you changed laundry detergents since this started happening? Or gotten a new bedspread or anything like that? Again, searching for a toxicity/allergen source, so was wondering if that might be the source.

Hello Jane,

How long has he been walking that way? It was hard to tell, but is his balance off a little bit?
Maybe he is having some absorption issues for some reason.
How is he doing today, did he run around a lot?
Did he eat much or not at all?

He sure has great colors & doesn't look like he has lost much weight.

Hey Tracie,
Well I noticed that last week when he was walking around Thursday and Friday. When he goes slower he seems to have more control, once he starts going faster he seems to do what he was doing.
He's been running around for the last few days and pooping regularly so I'm not pushing the eating thing. I think maybe he's just trying to clear his system out because he hasn't been pooping this regularly in I can't remember how long. So I'm going to offer him food and when he wants to eat I think he'll be ready to eat. Hahaha honestly I don't think he's lost any weight at all. The problem we've been having is that he'll eat but won't poop for a few days even with baths and applesauce.
He's running around, his pooping regularly and only spends a limited amount of time in his hide. Besides the legs and the appetite, this is a huge improvement for him. He's even basking right now under his Arcadia light. For the last couple of days he's tried basking on his hide because I think the Arcadia bulb might get to hot at times when I'm not home. My apartment has poor insulation and I didn't factor that in, I normally take the temps in the morning when its cooler so that might have done it. Its currently 102 and he's been sitting under it for the last 20 minutes.

Hello Jane,

How is he doing today?
Has he gait improved any lately? I hope that his weight is staying stable & his appetite is better.
Is he spending enough time basking to digest his food? Does he like the new Arcadia light now?
How are the temperatures doing now?
I am glad to hear he isn't spending much time in his hide now, compared to what he was.
Maybe he had been getting too hot also, which makes a huge difference in whether or not they will bask.

Hey Tracie,
He's doing well! He likes to wake up at 6 am every morning  . I didn't get up fast enough so he decided he just walk around till I got up. He's glass dancing and basking on his own. He spends a limited amount of time in his in the morning, maybe and the rest of the day he is basking under his light. I actually got him a Reptisun 10.0 tube and I'm currently waiting on the hood to hold it.
Better because it's not as up and down, it stays about 102. His gait is still off, but I've been giving him liquid calcium to make sure he actually gets it because he hasn't been eating much. That seems to be helping, his gait seems to be improving a little and he's climbing more things. The only thing that is still off is his appetite, but he's still a fat fat and doesn't seem to be losing much weight. I think now that he's pooping regularly that will help. He's eating a worm every now and then so I thinking maybe some of the fluid moved to his abdomen maybe or with the medication doing its job its throwing off his appetite.
He is getting 7 more shots, I talked about it with the vet and since he was doing a little better at the time, we wanted to make sure that the infection didn't come back. So he's gotten three since last week and then we'll probably get another ultrasound. This is the beardie that I haven't seen in a long time, I'm so relieved. I could live without having to be up at 6am every morning, but I guess sacrifices must be made...

I talked to the vet this morning and he said that he wanted to start him on Metacam because something might be wrong with his spine. I didnt want to throw meds at him so we're going Saturday morning to get X-rays. I sent the video to my normal vet to also get his opinion. I mean his gait isn't the best but he always has good colors and everyday he is running around more. His fair still isn't fantastic but it seems to be improving.

Update.
So we went to the vet Saturday, and since he was getting better he just said to stick with giving him the calcium. The thing is he has improved only so far and not seems to have just plateaued. Whenever he starts to run, he always loses his balance. He can walk just fine, its just when he tries to go faster. I can get another video and show you what I mean.
On the other news he did eat a few worms!! Mostly because he might have thought it was more soy yogurt but I'll take it. The other option is to start him on the metacam. In other news his energy levels are still good and he's running around like a nutter butter and tearing apart his cage. I was able to get his reptisun up so hopefully that will help to.
Does anyone know of a good place to buy reliable basking stands? I'm worried because lately his logs are always askew and I'm afraid he might hurt his legs. I would make my own, but I'm not extremely handy and I would be afraid that it would fall apart or I would use something toxic. Any recommendations or ones that you've found that you like? I've been looking but nothing very big seems to come up or if it does its like a 100 bucks. I mean I don't mind paying the money if that means he'll be safe, but I just thought I'd ask.

Hello Jane,

Sorry I missed your last update!
Wow it sounds like he has improved & is a lot more active & basking, too. So he is eating a little more now on his own, that is a huge improvement.
The vet thinks he has a problem with his spine, what gives him the indication of that, just the way he is moving? I wonder how he could have hurt that? The metacam can be given short term for him though.
The liquid calcium is helping him out though?
He doesn't have any black beard though at all?
He is waking up at 6am, really? Geez, so he just waits around for you to get up?
Hopefully he will like the Reptisun, you already have it up & running for him now?
I like to hear he is glass dancing, he must be feeling pretty good right now!
I don't know of any basking platforms/logs off hand. Did you try looking at the local petstore? You can try using a piece of wood from outside & smooth it off some, clean it & bake it also. Do you have any driftwood, that is always nice looking, too.

Sure, if you can get more video of him, that would be cool.
I am glad he is doing better right now!

Hey Tracie,
No worries! Seriously, you help out so many people on here and he has been doing better so I've just been watching and trying to get him to eat.
We got x-rays, he doesn't think its his spine now after looking at it. The liquid calcium has seemed to improve his walking, just not his running yet, then again he's only been on it on it for a week maybe two. He does black beard sometimes but he sometimes did the when he explored, but he does have it when he runs around more often then not.
Haha nope, this beardie slave gets up and puts him in his cage and then goes back to sleep. I'm just a good slave like that. I do, I'm still trying to find a good way to set it up permanently but it's up for right now. He definitely seems like it, its just the legs that worry me, but he gets around so I will take that over fluid around the heart.
I do, but none of it is very big. I don't but I'll look, I was just throwing it out there to see if anyone had some suggestions. I'll have the video tomorrow.

I'm sorry the video I tried to upload was either to long or something and photobucket is just not letting me upload it. I will take a shorter video tomorrow and post it, little boy is currently sleeping. :love5:

Hello Jane,

Great, I am looking forward to seeing a video of him. :D I am happy to hear he is peacefully sleeping. They are so precious.
That is wonderful he doesn't feel it is his spine then, that is great news!
I am glad to hear the calcium is slowly helping him out. It may take a little bit of time for full recovery.
They do love to black beard though, so that isn't terribly unusual. Does he run around black bearding & bobbing at everything too?
That is so cool, you get up that early to put him in his tank to bask. I guess he is used to his schedule
now. I think this is a huge improvement & maybe the fluids around his heart will be gone.
Let me know how the log search goes!

I do not want to alarm you, but his gait resembles Quincy's in the 2-3 months before he passed away from liver failure.

When was the last time that blood tests were done? Have the liver an kidneys been checked since the antibiotic injections?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
