Hello,

Goodness! It almost looks like a burn possibly?
Ouch, that absolutely cannot feel good at all. Have you used any honey on those areas yet?
How is he doing today?

Not actually a burn.

I have not yet applied honey to his sores. The question I would have there is how do I make sure the lotion is properly applied after I put honey on the sore? Should I clean the honey off twice a day and then apply the lotion? My concern is build up of matter but I suppose cleaning more often should take care of that.

I will also discontinue daily use of the antibiotic, I have only given once so far. Do you think it would be alright to give it once a week for a couple weeks or a month?

Thanks!
Sonny

I would say hold off on the antibiotics for now and give a probiotic like Bene Bac or Acidophiliz+ to help improve gut flora and give him a better chance at fighting it internally. Was the vet concerned about a bacterial infection? Why did they prescribe the Baytril?

Honestly I believe someone or somewhere she looked told her to supply the antibiotic "just in case" is kinda what I got out of the ordeal. I really don't j now if it was baytril but she mentioned the name and the fact that it's only until it is gone. 0.05 ml per day in the above post. So maybe it is a generic baytril? She said the other one given with a syringe (0.2 ml) was the medicine for the fungal infection. The lotion she gave is nice and lotion-y but it smells really clean so it may have some harsh cleaners in it, the second day the wound looked grey.

Since the I have been doing honey twice a day but no bandages. It would make sense on the large wound but without immoblizing him too much idk how to do it. He sure could use a dressing on his stub though. The article posted above say yes 48 hours dressings so if I do twice a day with no dressing maybe it will be as effective. He at least likes it much better than the lotion I think.

0.2ml Baytril maybe? orally once a day 4-6mths (250mg tab + 10ml H2O) but it just says outside pharmacy no name of the solution.
) .05ml 100mg/ml ZZ Enrofloxacin once a day til gone, bottle says quantity: 2.

Enrofloxacin and Baytril are the same drug. Antibiotics. I would stop this immediately. Dosing a dragon with YF with antibiotics will always make it worse. There is no need to give meds for "just in case." They should only really be taken as later measure. If the .05ml is the Baytril/Enro, I would find out what the .2ml is. That may be the anti fungal, and in that case, he will need that immediately.

The anti fungal cream may burn his tender skin if it smells antiseptic. The honey may be better until the redness is gone, then continue with the anti fungal cream.

Okay yes I have stopped using antibiotics and have been using the antifungal. I'll have to get ready name of it. The lotion is on a dropper bottle and clear nearly like water in color and fluidity, I gave also stopped that for the time being. I am on the honey but do you think it will do well enough if not bandaged and left on for 48 hours? It's not nearly as raw as the dog in the article but I figured quality over quality as to get it applied and it will stay in most spots that have scales left and the other will go away. But he does normally sit in one spot for quite a while after application so I would think a small layer would be forming on the skin. It's hard to tell though

Definitely get the name of the anti fungal when possible. Hopefully it's Voriconazole or Itraconazole. As for the bandaging, you could try if you want. You could either wrap his whole torso or just patch the side with the sores. Standard gauze is fine, and use paper tape to adhere to the scales. It's a low-tack tape that's meant for sensitive skin. You can use regular adhesive tape on top of the paper tape where the paper tape meets the gauze to help prevent the tape coming off the gauze. The regular adhesive tape should not touch the scales, just use it to more securely adhere the paper tape to the gauze.

Vetrap is a light elastic outer bandaging material that is applied over the tape and gauze dressing. It can be used to cover the dressing to prevent its becoming soiled and is mildly water resistant. Vetrap can be used to anchor the dressing by wrapping it around the torso and opposing limb. The edges of the Vetrap should extend beyond the edge of the tape on, both sides of the dressing.

I don't think the wrapping is completely necessary, but if he moves and smears the honey or irritates the wounds, it may be a good idea.

His temperatures should be kept at around 80, even at night, to help boost his immune system.

Alright is been a while since his vet visit. This were going very well the first week and he seemed pretty active and the skin healed well... The yellow is receeding

Well I made a mistake.... I soaked him in water in attempt to clean him... Bad idea as you may guess

Well his wounds "melted" to say the least and I'm sure it was painful to have you skin falling off. He did not like to be held and it was hard to give him his meds and only made his wounds scab worse. So I took a few days off to help him heal. I'm not sure that was the best idea

His large wound and the second largest one are now infected...

This leave a predicament. Do I give him anti biotic? Or just apply the lotion the gave me?

Hadn't I soaked him I feel thinga would be fine, I feel terrible but I was only trying to help him. He is scared now when I get the gloves out :(

I would put the raw honey on it , it should kill the bacteria and help the wound to heal. It contains enzymes + amino acids that promote clean tissue growth.

Okay I will just continue using it alone. Also I have a zoo med heated pad under the tank and below the composite flooring squares I put down in the cage. Do you think this is a good or bad idea? He sit on it now most all the time and rarely goes to his basking spot but thinking cuz the infection hurts to be bent over an uneven rock. I will put my hand on it and it doesn't get to the point where I would think it's too hot but with the wound infection I don't know. Thanks

Wow! Man, I'm sorry about your buddy. I think if you have stone slabs over the pad it should disperse heat enough. I dont like those pads cause they have failed three times in a row on me (zoo-med).
I built a burlap hammock of sorts. Check out my posts for the idea, might be better support for him. The honey idea btw, sounds amazing. I never thought of this.

Good luck!!!

If possible, I have heard the Fluker's brand heat mats are more reliable and are designed to run at an even 100 degrees. You can get them on Amazon, petmountain, or from LLL Reptiles site. I have the mini one and use it to keep my Phoenix Worms warm so they'll grow. The only reason people don't like heat mats is because they have the potential to burn the animal, but I know many people with Leopard Geckos use them for years without a problem. Maybe someone more experienced with heat mats can chime in, but in my non-professional opinion, it should be fine and might be a good solution for your guy since he probably shouldn't be dragging himself along to get to his bask spot and regulate for now.

Generally people think it's best to use a thermostat with the heat mats, so if they ever get too hot, they shut off.

I am pretty certain the heat pad is okay. it's not in a basking spot and head is dispersed fairly well over the tile. My 24 year old iguana has had his heat rock since I got him and he never had an issue eeither thanks a quality heat rock! Thanks for the reply on the heat pad.

As for the infection I think he was sluggish because of the onset of the bacterial infection. His wound still looks pretty infected but it is getting more skin color than pale white with the honey application. I shouldn't have waited the few days but when I would handle him after the bathing I'm almost certain his pain was excruciating. Either way I intend to keep applying the honey throught.

Any thoughts on how to more easily get the syringe in his mouth? I think he hates the taste as the first day I gave it to him it wasn't that hard. Now I have a bugger of a time. Any way to dilute with water or some flavor? His mouth is unbelievably strong! Reminds me of the iguana that made my thumb explode.. Any experience is appreciated!

Hello,

How is he doing today? Sorry the wounds got messed up with that bath!
The honey should help to clear that up.
I am glad you stopped using the antibiotics, also. Is he on the anti fungal cream or an oral anti-fungal medication now?
Have you tried just dripping food onto the end of his snout to see if he will take it that way or will he not take enough at one time? You can try getting a swab to get his mouth open & get it into his mouth from the side, carefully.

I hope he improves for you soon!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
